Hello out there, I've used codeweavers-wine until recently, when I changed to RedHat 9. I did a little research and found out that there are problems with some libraries (glibc ?). So, therefore I was pleased to see a new build, where all glibc problems are supposed to be fixed (this is build 20030408). I did the traditional ./configure (and a 2nd time I did : --with-ntpd) make depend make order and it seemed to work. (Wine build complete) Now however, I can't just start winesetup or wine like I was used to. Do I have to start it from some other directory. Where did it compile ? Any help is greatly appreciated. George P.S. I'm a newbie, please be moderate if these questions sound a bit dumb
Hello!> ./configure (and a 2nd time I did : --with-ntpd)Did you really use --with-ntpd or was this a typo in your mail? It should be --with-nptl ...> make depend > make > > order and it seemed to work. (Wine build complete) Now however, I can't > just start winesetup or wine like I was used to. Do I have to start it > from some other directory. Where did it compile ?You should either call "make install" to finally copy the compiled binaries and libs to the appropriate directories in your filesystem or just use the installer script wineinstall: cd ~/wine (if you've unpacked the wine-source somewhere else you have to change this command) ./tools/wineinstall (this calls the installer-script, which asks some questions and then automatically compiles, installs and configures wine. You may still have to adjust your ~/.wine/config file, to enter some personal preferences ...) Note: I don't know if wineinstall uses --with-nptl at the moment - but as you've configured manually before, it should detect this and just skip the configure step. Or just edit the file and change the configure-args (it's in the first few lines under the version history at the beginning of the file). Good luck, Philipp Wollermann
I suggest you use ./tools/wineinstall in the wine source. I installed on redHat9 wine-20030408-1rh8winehq.i686.rpm When I try to start wine , I obtain the following message : "wine: chdir to /tmp/.wine-pgogan/server-813-bc01c : No such file or directory" After uninstalling the rpm and compiling from the source Wine20030408.tar.gz (configure, make depend, make, make install), I obtain exactly the same result. Can somebody help? You can also try to use the wineintall tool in the tools directory of your source code, and modify the script to include the --with-nptl flag. The problem is due to the fact of the new threading technology implemented in RH9. The other workaround is to set the an environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5. The you can run the normal wine you have installed (although I do recommend the re-compile option better).
