It seems I am having problems setting up the Config file. First of all let me note that I am new to Linux so that's another cool point lost. I figured maybe the instructions on their web site is outdated or something because after I run the rpm yada, yada, yada command, and try to configure the config file, I always get a message that says drive or something of another is not valid; I don't even have a ./wine directory like the instructions said I should have so I just created it. But now I am getting very frustrated with this. So what I have done now is totally uninstalled Wine and deleted the ./wine directory so I can start all over from scratch. What is a good directory to setup the config file for? Personally, I would like it in root such as like /windows or /c: directory so its easier to find. Take a look at the bottom of this page: http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia/ The program winesetuptk is a little utility for doing the Wine configuration.
Let's keep this on the newsgroup. Shaunie wrote:> Duane Clark wrote: > >>> >>> >>> You did not mention which site you got the rpm from... > > > Oops, sorry. I got it from Data Party at the WineHQ web site and the > version I downloaded was wine-cvs-unstripped-112902-1.i386.rpm w/ glibc > version 2.2.4. >There is an "Installation Guide" at the same site that describes how to create..er copy the config file. But looking at what they provide, I should ask whether you are using a real or fake Windows installation. It looks like that particular rpm is set up for a real Windows install. It appears to be missing the default registry entries that you will need if creating a configuration for a new fake Windows install. The winesetuptk already mentioned does install some registry entries, and probably enough to be useful. It also sets up the fake Windows installation. It looks like it can be used with the Data Party Wine rpm just fine.

If you want the Windows directory to be located somewhere else, just move it and modify the ~/.wine/config file to point to it's new location. Here are some instructions that come with that file: http://www.franksworld.net/wineguide/config.html

So do I still need to install the Wine from > Data Party in addition to the ones you gave me? >I assume the file from Franksworld? In either case, yes you need to install the Data Party rpm. Both winesetuptk and wineconfig.tgz just do configuration, but both look like they should work with the data party rpm. The only additional thing to check is that you have an environment variable set, WINEDLLPATH=/usr/lib/wine . And with that, I am going to be gone for about a week. So if you still need some help, please post to this newsgroup rather than emailing me directly. I will not be checking my email.
