Hi everyone, after attempting to correct Ivo's statement about Theora and Vorbis being the "default codecs" in the HTML 5 draft, I just got the following mail off list: "Why are you still here? And by here I mean the Xiph lists. I've seen you speaking ill of our formats and of free software more than in one occasion. So, for what purpose do you still stick around? What is your intention?" Am I really coming through like such a beefy grouser? I hope people knowing me a little bit better realize that I've spent quite some time on Xiph related work, which however does not keep me from being realistic and rather sceptic towards many of the approaches I've seen to support Xiph. It might just be me, but I don't think bashing around on other formats or claiming incorrect advantages of the Xiph formats will do any good. Regards, Tor

Maybe whoever sent this confused you with somebody else, but even so, last I checked, Xiph was an open community where people were free to voice their opinions, even unpopular opinions. Anyway, I don't remember ever seeing you speak ill of Ogg formats here or anywhere. I do remember, though, that among other contributions such as J-Ogg, you attempted to implement a Flash-based Vorbis player, and while the attempt was apparently unsuccessful, the effort is still much appreciated IMHO. Just my two cents, Carsten.
Hi. I've been reading the Vorbis list for years and I can't recall you ever being unjust or trying to put down the efforts of Xiph. In this case you tried to check how you were percieved without getting confrontational nor naming the private e-mailer. I take some issue with that. By all means, any of us should free to knock back a flask and go off on a rant, but don't imply you're speaking for everyone when you do so. Tor, I hope you know you're welcome here. Thank you for listening, Monty Head Mean Drunk Xiph.Org
