Ogg Vorbis files can be compressed ?!?
...there.
I have a short .ogg with Vorbis stream @56kbps
from a 44.1 16bits stereo sample, which weights
exactly 135'781 bytes. Packed to ZIP, it goes
down to 109'485 bytes, that's a 80% ratio !
Even worse with latest RAR3 archive, with
which the file size goes to 104'349 (76%).
<sceptical>
I admit this sample is a bit repetitive, but I
guess the probability of having the beats match
exactly the window frame edge is relatively
low, so is the one of having multiple similar
stream frames. Even though, I don't know if
the coding inside Vorbis would let this happen.
This is just...

I've forgotten, why is box("") the default?
...;ve already forgotten, without (re)discovering the
reason for S using "non-joining" axes by default, instead
of box("l").
MASS points me towards Cleveland (1993) but I don't
have ready access to this any more. Could someone
give me a one-liner to justify this choice to a sceptic?
It's something to do with not mis-interpreting the axes
intersection as (0,0), isn't it?

RFC: Are auto-generated assertions a good practice?
...e python `update` scripts under `utils` directory. My first reaction was wow! I found it very practical and useful. It saves you significant amount of time when writing a regression test. So I gave it a try. The generated checks were satisfying enough, almost exactly what I wanted. Then I got a bit sceptical about them. I am worried that auto-generating tests based on the compiler output can be quite dangerous. The tests will always pass regardless of whether the compiler emits right or wrong code, therefore you have to be certain that they impose the desired compiler behaviour. I guess the question...

Raspberry Pi Version of Samba?
...ured to a different job on the network and
has been running for over a year with the same microsd card. No device
failure as yet. Any device running as a DC seldom spikes the cpu while
maintaining the network doing their Samba 4 job.
I did not use the RPi as a permanent DC because, like you, I was sceptical
of the reliability of the hardware. I don't think it was designed or
intended to be run 24/7 like these nanopc's are.
I have two nanopc that are coming up on five years running 24/7 without any
hardware failure, as yet.

[PATCH 2/4]
This patch adds new SSE code: it's simpler but not faster so
this new version is disabled by default. Maybe it will be faster
on newer CPUs though...

Box M test
Dear List
I am looking for a script that will calculate the Box M test to test the homogeneity of the variance/covariance matrix between two matrices.
If anyone could send me the script I would appreciate it.
I am aware of the scepticism about this test, where due to extreme sensitivity a p value of 0.01 is recommended. Despite this however Box's M test is the established method for identification of stable strategic time periods within the strategic management literature and I would like the opportunity to use this method w...

Something like rcov but more explicit?
Hey list,
Does anything exist that can show me which lines are explicitly tested? RCov
is great, but it doesn''t really give a sense of _actual_ coverage, indeed,
there is no guarantee that functions executed were in fact called as the
result of a line being tested.
I know nothing of the rspec internals, but would a simple list of executed
lines be a relatively simple feature to add?

Error joining Linux member to 4.5.0 DC: Indicates the SID structure is not valid
I had the same issue with 4.5.1 vanilla. I was able to reverse the
fixes from 11520 against 4.5.1. You can see the resulting patch here:
http://pastebin.com/4wTQdLKL. A 4.5.1 build with that patch applied is
working fine for me.

Arthur

Are there source codes for Xen-IB?
Hi,
I found a link: http://xenbits.xensource.com/ext/xen-smartio.hg for Xen-IB
source codes, but it did''t exist anymore.
Are there other ways to get the Xen-IB source codes?
Thanks.

...k, but I don't want the noise of the rest.

5-10 samples on an ARM board is not feasible. Currently it takes 1
hour to run the whole set. Making it run for 5-10 hours will reduce
its value to zero.
> I am a little sceptical on this. Machines should generally not be noisy.
ARM machines work at a much lower power level than Intel ones. The
scheduler is a lot more aggressive and the quality of the peripherals
is *a lot* worse.
Even if you set up the board for benchmarks (fix the scheduler, put
everything up to 11), t...

[LLVMdev] Size and performance figures for LLVM?
...iagnose the problems,
and now I find that my entire project was stalled because of this.
The concrete problem is that Ubuntu's way of doing cross compilations
seems incompatible with LLVM's way of using the autoconf machinery.
I've been told that this is Ubuntu's fault, but I'm sceptical: I have
seen LLVM's autoconf do things that autoconf shouldn't do if properly
set up.
Unfortunately, nobody stepped up to clear this up, and I'm increasingly
frustrated because I've been lacking the time to do it myself.
Devang's answer didn't seem to give any of the info...

Centos 7 specific cure for Spamassassin DNS lookup problem
...in or other cures.
Before I start changing things I was wondering if there was a Centos 7
specific resolution. Where possible, on production machines I prefer to stay
with RPM's rather than amending software directly.
Also, many of these responses are over 10 years old, so I'm a little sceptical
about their success today.

Me, the grouser?
...t purpose do you still stick around? What is your
intention?"
Am I really coming through like such a beefy grouser? I hope people
knowing me a little bit better realize that I've spent quite some time
on Xiph related work, which however does not keep me from being
realistic and rather sceptic towards many of the approaches I've seen to
support Xiph. It might just be me, but I don't think bashing around on
other formats or claiming incorrect advantages of the Xiph formats will
do any good.

comprises well over 75% of my daily written communication.
And while I understand the cultural motivation behind the dogma of bottom
posting I remain sceptical respecting its utility. Is there any objective
evidence whatsoever that top or bottom posting makes any difference to the
reader's understanding of the message? Does any rigorously determined data
exist to support that contention? If not then this is simply a matter of

patch, but several users had pushed for it, see:
