I hope this hasn't already been mentioned on the list or I'll kind of look stupid... The Ogg Developers may already be aware of this, but I thought this would be news for most of the people who subscribe to this list. I saw this on NewsForge where they referenced an article from MP3Newswire.net The article is about Kenwood announcing a digital music system for cars that supports Ogg Vorbis. I think it would be good if they allowed users to play ogg files from a cd as well. Theres always hope I guess. It's just the PC software that comes with it that allows encoding to Vorbis. The page about that encoder: http://www.phatnoise.com/products/software/encoder.php Note the footnote: "OGG Vorbis format is not supported by the PhatNoise Car Audio System and is only offered as an additional encoding format." Sorry to disappoint you.
Segher
--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. The PhatBox (and Music Keg) will support Ogg as soon as FREE libraries are available which will run on the ARM 7. If anybody is working towareds such a goal, please let me know. I can test it out on the PhatBox, and incorporate it into future upgrades. Ok, so I'm definately a little greed wanting free arm libraries for Ogg. The free PC libraries and the free arm WMA libraries have spoiled me a little. I personally would be willing to pay for libraries, but I don't know too many companies what would be willing to pay, or increase the cost of their product. Obviously, SonicBlue and Creative haven't seen fit to pay for it on their arm products. These cheap portables are the last place I can't play Ogg, and I don't see that changing until free libraries are available. Obviously this has been discussed before here - but how about a new wrinkle? What's the feasability of getting a bunch of Ogg enthusiasts who own these devices to donate money towares an open fixed-point port?
