Hello, I´m just curious: How far is Theora from a bitstream freeze? From TheoraTodo: "Derf has come up with a number of suggestions for improving the flexibility of the bitstream based on his experimental encoder work. These will be implemented, if not entirely supported by the reference decoder, before alpha 3 is released." Are those changes supposed to be the last adjustments? Is the mentioned experimental encoder a tool to document the bitstream format and for validation - or is it ment to replace the modified VP3-encoder? By the way: I lately ran some quality comparisons between current Theora CVS and XviD with some VQEQ sequences. (after some exams I will perhaps do a comparison webpage). I think Theora already delivers quality comparable to XviD... so congratulions to the developers! As I've seen it, there's basically two things remaining: * Ralph (rillian) needs to sort out the remaining suggested bitstream changes and release a Alpha-3 * The bitstream spec, in the form of a python example decoder, needs to be finished. I've started on this, but it's going to take an overall effort to complete as I'm just beginning to learn the codec myself. After these two things are done, and provided that there are no more nessesary changes to the bitstream, Beta (thus bitstream freeze) should be just around the corner. I'm personally predicting late spring'ish. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'theora-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
