Problem with graphics device in Mac OS X
Hello List, I am teaching a basic course where students are encouraged to use R. There are a few students using Mac OS X. As a test we downloaded and installed the latest .dmg file (R-2.6.1.dmg) onto a intel Mac running 10.5.1. A device query yields > getOption("device") "quartz" But any plot command does not bring up a plot (e.g. plot(), boxplot(), hist()). I found a

Confused with default device setup
When invoking dev.new() on my Mac OS X 10.4.11, I get an X11 window instead of quartz which I feel more desirable. So I'd like to set the default device to quartz. However I'm confused because of the following: > Sys.getenv("R_DEFAULT_DEVICE") R_DEFAULT_DEVICE "quartz" > getOption("device") [1] "X11" What's going on? Also is

Qt device update
Hi, a few days back I had asked for help on a Qt device package. Thanks to hints from Duncan TL and Thomas Friedrichsmeier, I now have something more or less functional. For those interested, It can be downloaded from http://dsarkar.fhcrc.org/R/R-Qt.html I have a couple of related questions. First, dev.interactive(), used in example() and many demo()-s to decide if the current device is

quartz() on MAC OSX
I am (desperately) trying to get used to using a Mac here at my new location. (Why *anyone* would ever use anything other than Linux, except under duress as I am, totally escapes me, but that's another story.) Fortunately much of the Mac OSX is actually Unix, so a civilized person can manage to carry on ... But there are some things. (Like this <expletive deleted> mailer ... But

Kate terminal window
Dear R-users, I've recently switched to Ubuntu and I've decided to use Kate to edit my R code. I really like how Kate allows one to simply pipe their code to the terminal. However, I would find it even better if I could actually get the Kate console to display error messages (or any console outputs in fact) in red and my input in a different color. The instance of xterm that Ubuntu

I've just tested Unreal Media Server with Wine 1.1.8, and found some improvements. It now doesn't drop a connection immediately, but dies after trying to stream some data: The following errors occur when I try to connect and watch MediaRoot/test.avi: fixme:quartz:AVISplitter_first_request Created stream 0 thread 0x0000005a fixme:quartz:AVISplitter_first_request Created stream 1 thread

R.app window size
Hi all, This is a question for any of you who use R.app (OS X). Is there any way to resize the quartz plot window from within R? I know that you can resize the window by dragging the corner of the window, and fro the preferences panel. But is there a way to specify the window size from the console? I want to specify the size of the plot window from inside an R function. Also a

[PATCH] liboggplay - kate support, build fixes, and misc
Hi, I've added kate support to liboggplay (a prerequisite to getting kate tracks to work with the mozilla plugin, which I've now got working on Linux). In addition to the Kate code: - a new oggplay-uninstalled.pc file - configure.ac checks for C++ compiler - no check for fishsound version - it wanted 0.8.0, but the svn itself was 0.7.1 !? - don't use imlib2 (nor dump-first-frame) if

Latest version of kate editor
I have installed the kate editor on Centos 6.7 but it seems to be a very old version, 3.3.4, installed as part of kdesdk. On Centos 7 I can simply run 'yum install kate' but, alas, not on Centos 6. What is the recommended way of updating kate on Centos 6? Thank you.

appropriate work-around for problems with a specific plot device (Rstudio)?
Dear r-devel-opers, I'm working on a package that does some plot-intensive work using the animation library. It turns out that this performs very badly in the RStudio plot device, which is the preferred IDE for our team. Our kludgy solution is to detect if the Rstudio device is running, and if so, open another plot device to do the rendering and close it when done:

About the media type, my understanding was that text was for actual text, not binary that could be decoded into text. If you think another would be more appropriate, please tell which. If it would be text/x-kate, I'd see

[PATCH] browser_plugin - kate support, build fixes, and misc
Hi, this patch adds: - kate support (what else) - this bumps the Javascript API to 1.1 - a few build fixes (note that the adding of -L/usr/X11/lib -lX11 looks suspect to me, that shouldn't be needed, so you may want to leave it out if you think so as well - it's odd as X11 using programs do configure fine on that box) - bad pointer dereference fix (mouse callback) - avoid the input

using Kate for WebVTT encapsulation
(sending this publicly so the discussion about this is in the open) Hi OggK, all, OggK, you've probably seen that the bug in Firefox for adding Kate support has been closed as WONTFIX: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481529 I've just posted a reply there mentioning how I envisage in-band WebVTT support to be provided through Kate. I want to ask your opinion. In case you
