Does shared hosting work? Anywhere?
I moved a rails application to textdrive using their low-cost shared plan.
Once on textdrive my app would display ''proxy errors'' periodically. Hitting
reload
seemed to be all that was needed to get past the proxy error.
After discussions with their support people I decided the proxy errors were
being caused by apache server restarts -- because there were many of us

Does your *shared* hosting account work without errors?
Does your *shared* hosting account work without errors?
I''m interested in both positive and negative reports. If you are willing,
please contribute
   - name of the hosting service
   - how long you have used them
   - your experience ("flawless!", "it''s crap!")
You *do not* need to reply saying your VPS service works great. This is

anybody using GoDaddy for hosting ?
Is anybody hosting with GoDaddy.com? I''m about to set up a hosted account for my RoR app and see that they''re now offering RoR hosting. I''d really appreciate hearing from anybody who''s tried them for RoR. Any congrats / complaints / etc. you had / are having would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
Bill

TextDrive complaints
Hi all,
I have deployed my Ruby On Rails application on TextDrive.
At first everything seamed to be fine. However, lately, response time of my
application is incredible slow.
Worse, lately there is also a lot of downtime.
I have contacted their support desk, however, they do not respond (at all,
or very, very late).
Has anyone else these experiences with TextDrive?
And if so, what did you do

Off-topic: Rails hosting
All,
I''ve been looking switching hosting providers, and have been strongly
considering TextDrive. Doing a little Googling turns up a fair
number of complaints that seem to be centered around server
performance, stability and uptime. Since I know a poorly written app
can contribute to all of these, I thought I''d pose the question to
all of you. Does anyone here host

Hosting client applications - part time developer
I do web development outside of work and I have three new projects
starting soon from a little brouchureware site to larger applications. I
have a personal hosting account with TextDrive that allows me to run 3
domains, this is not going to be big enough to host the apps for my
clients.
How do other people host Rails sites & apps for their clients? All this
talk of VPS solutions etc

Measuring hosting performance: shared <--> vps <--> dedicated
Every app we build has to be deployed, and the price has to be right.
* dedicated servers start at 99$/m (Dreamhost, ..), and
shared hosting go up to 47$/m (PlanetArgon) or 60$/m (TextDrive)
*  Railsplayground: 2$/m
*  TextDrive dedicated servers : 1000$/m
Is there an objective way/tool to measure, test and compare the
performance of the hosters?

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on
netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a
quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed
myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books.
But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500
server errors.

Anyone running a business hosting plan @ textdrive?
I currently run a handfull of sites on a MediaTemple VPS - which is blazing
fast and very cheap for what I get. BUT installing rails and mysql v4 was a
major pain in my ass, along with other things.
I''m considering switching to a Textdrive business hosting plan but wanted to
get some feedback from list members first.
I pay about $200 a month quarterly for my MediaTemple service.

Rails, FCGI, Dreamhost
Is anybody getting acceptable performance with a Rails application on
Dreamhost? By this, I mean response times no greater than 3 seconds, and
no large numbers of FCGI processes that you have to kill manually.
If so, how?
I''ve ended up running a constant ping script (once every ten minutes),
and still have to kill some number of excess dispatch.fcgi processes
every day.

Subversion AND Rails hosting
I''ve been scouring the net looking for different hosting solutions,
but have so far only found one site that has what I''m looking for. I
would like to be able to host both a subversion repository for
development and my rails application(s) all in one location. So far,
I''ve only found a company called AVLUX (http://avlux.net/host.php)
that has this. Does anyone know of

[OT] Shared hosting for Rails projects
To much of my dissapointment, the uptime on my TxD account does not
improve.
What alternatives do we have for hosting Rails projects on shared
accounts? I would love to keep lighttpd and the level of control I
have on TxD but wouldn''t like to spend much more (I am currently on
the 25$/month plan).
I won''t need much support, but I would love to have subversion

99.9% uptime
Sorry, forgot to change the subject on my first posting.
I was reading a comment this morning about something Microsoft had published
to the effect that there were vendors guaranteeing 99.9% uptime for NT. The
guy who wrote the reply did the math for what that means, and the results
are very interesting.
Quote below:
OK, now what does a 99.9% uptime guarantee mean? Well, it means that

restarting fastCGI process
Hi, I am very new to this so please go easy on me... I am trying to
deploy my app on dreamhost and I seem to be having problems getting it
working. One of the troubleshooting items on the wiki states:
Rails apps in production mode do not reflect changes made after they
start running. So, if you found a bug, fixed it and nothing appeared to
happen--this is probably because you
