yet another stereo related question
Hi! >From http://www.vorbis.com/stereo.psp : "Oggenc's default choice varies by bitrate and each mode is selectable by the user" So, how am I supposed to do that? E.g. what do I have to do when I want an 128kbps .OGG using lossless stereo, or does this "selectable by the user" mean only that I can choose the stereo mode indirectly by choosing an appropriate bitrate?

YA-2496
Hi. I've been browsing the archive on this topic and only found a few notes, all dating from a year ago (almost too precisely :) ) -- hope I haven't skipped the mails on that matter, sorry if I did. <p>Basically, I will get in the next few months a MOTU 896, that have 8 i/os in 24/96. I do pro sound recording, so it's more or less my business to have such a piece. Of

vorbis quality - quality scale vs bitrate
Hi there, I'm using libvorbis in my program and need to encode to target bitrate. I know libvorbis prefer to use quality scale but I can't use it. I've found something at faq http://vorbis.com/faq/#quality *For now, quality 0 is roughly equivalent to 64kbps average, 5 is roughly 160kbps, and 10 gives about 400kbps. Most people seeking very-near-CD-quality audio encode at a quality

Quality & ripping speed
Thanks for all the great responses on tools to use - I have Exact Audio Copy and CDex working very well, and I've been working out all the kinks. Two questions, one very Vorbis related, one not :) 1) I know people have asked many times "What quality should I use". Well, I want to ask it again but in a narrower frame. I see less than 10% difference in size between 4.99 and 5.00 -

Office Professional Plus 2010 install fails
Hello. Knowing that many improvements have happened in the wine code to install the Office. I also want to install. The version I'm using is Office Professional Plus 2010 using wine 1.5.0 on Debian Squeeze (i386). I went to install, clean created new prefix wine, and open the setup, there I took which is not going to use, getting: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. The installation starts

Vorbis Ambisonic coupling

R random number generation
i have to generate random numbers from length 2 to 30 and length two should have the numbers 1,2 and length 3 should have the numbers 1,2,3 so on and so forth till size 30.i should get an sequence like 2222221 or 1111112 till both the values appear and for 3 it should be 1222223 or 3331112.i should get similar output for all sizes which means i should get 30 sequences.but am getting only one

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis (or any other lossy codec) I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg. Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated. Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because

Archival quality for music
This mail depends upon the fact that I don't have a couple of good earphones ;-) I read in the site that q=6 is a very high quality, but does it contain perceivable differencies from the original? (for 95% of people, of course). I also found q=6 to produce files slightly bigger (1/10 bigger) than those produced with lame VBR q=2 (about 192 bps on average). I always thought LAME VBR q=2

USB Wine support patch
I'd like to test the usb support in wine as it says on the page: http://wiki.winehq.org/USB I made the order process with the source Wine 1.4-rc6, baixeis the 2 latest patches in ftp://ftp.etersoft.ru/pub/people/amorozov/usb/current the patch 0001-Add-support was accepted without errors, but the patch 0002-Re-generate an error there, which allows the wine to compile: root at

quality question
Hello, Please excuse me for asking a think that everybody could have asked before... I am a newbie and I want to encode some wavs using FLAC Frontend. I see many settings and 'Level' kept my attention. As I know, FLAC is a lossless encoding format, and I see from my tests that Level affects file size and bitrate. What is the meaning of it? Is there any difference in sound quality or just

5.1 surround channel coupling
>Yesterday I have finished writing the ambisonic pan filter for oggenc. May I ask what this "pan filter" is? I made some tentative suggestions for coupling Ambisonic B-format in a post "Vorbis Ambisonic coupling" on 4feb07 I gather from the last monthly meeting, that some of you, including Monty, had problems with the phase behaviour of B-format. Would anyone like a

Encoding with Channel-Coupling
Hi, I'm planning to re-encode all my MP3s with Ogg Vorbis but I wanted to wait until 1.0 was released because of channel-coupling. I read that would increase quality about 40% at the same bitrate and I didn't want to encode my files wasting all that bitrate ... Now, since 1.0rc1 is released I am wondering if I am actually able to use channel-coupling right now. I installed all the newest

Lost residue modifications
Hello, I'm trying to modify the residue vectors in Vorbis audio files at encoding time. For testing, I'm just adding +1 to each residue vector's element, so e.g., if I have an original residue vector of [0,1,2,3] I modify it during the encoding to be [1,2,3,4], and at the decoder's side I should receive the [1,2,3,4] vector. The problem is that, after adding the +1, I still

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there. While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder. First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76 on Windows 98 SE. 1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played. 2. I check the option of

Uncoupled mode?
Hello, A question: Can we use uncoupled encoding in the 1.0? (current CVS) How? Because I see some uncoupled definitions (books\uncoupled\res_books_uncoupled.h), but I don't know how could I switch to it manually. Perhaps with an option in the vorbis_encode_ctl() function... Because I think so it's better if I don't use any kind of channel coupling (lossless neither) on high bitrates

icecast - it is what i search
Hi! I want to realize a realtime DJ Battle where some DJs enter in a virtual cypher and start a HipHop Battle. For example, there are 5 DJs an 5 listener in the Jury. Only one DJ my play at present and the others can only listen. After 2 minutes and a little break another DJ is on the turn and so on. Is icecast what i want? Can i realize it with icecast? thanks, buelent -- buelent caliskan

5.1 surround channel coupling
It obviously would be nice to have such a mode available, for e.g. DVD audio compression. Apparently, the list doesn''t tell me too much about it. My questions are: 1. What is the current status of the 5.1 channel coupling in Vorbis? 2. If I''ll be interested in participation in its development, what is the recommended reading? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Higher quality video - supporting greater than 8 bit color depth
Hi, I was wondering what are this forum's collective thoughts on the best way to support video color fidelity greater than what we have today. I am not a video developer myself. I edit video. A type of problems I come across fairly often, have to do with the limited color depth of the digital video medium. They often manifest themselves as "cartoonish" areas of adjacent flat
