Mime types
Hello, Does anyone know how to configure the mime type for ogg on Apache (on a FreeBSD box)? I added application/x-ogg to the mime.types file in Apache, but Nutscrape6.2 and Mozilla 0.9.5 just show the file in txt format, IE5x on the other hand kindly asks me what to do with the file (open it or download it). I also added the mime-type in Nutscrape62 and Mozilla and added Winamp as helper app

And thats only a player. What about an (Open Source) encoder? Nah, I'll stick with OGG for the time being. CDex and Flac
I am using CDex to encode my music into Flac. I am using the latest version of Flac (with the frontend etc.) and sending the rips to it as an 'external encoder' with the string: -8 -o %2 -T "artist=%a" -T "title=%t" -T "album=%b" -T "date=%y" -T "tracknumber=%tn" -T "genre=%g" - However, I am getting the below output/error with

Winamp plug-in
When using Winamp's diskwriter with the ogg plug-in v1.13 the resulting wav files are only named 01, 02, etc. So the original names are lost. I hope Peter can fix this. oggenc (small files)
I've had this problem encoding oggs where the output file is small, like 24kbytes for a 4 minute song (tested at 128 and 160kbit). I'm running Windows 2000 and this has happened in oggenc, oggdrop, and CDEX, though I've also been able to get good encodings with each of these. I think the only clean encodings have been .wav's that I've made myself with SoundForge or CoolEdit,

OT: WinNT(2000) player to open files with unicode names?
Sorry for posting somewhat off-topic... Most my music files have names in hebrew (FAT32 partition). I dual-boot between a hebrew win98 (where these files are opened nicely by winamp, freeamp and any other program) and a hebrew win2000, where windows media player is the only program I've seen so far to open them. All others say "can't open file ???? ?? ???.ogg" (or .mp3) - both

UTF-8 & Hebrew
Sorry if this is offtopic. My Win32 comment editor uses a routine of my own to read comments directly from OGG files but uses vorbiscomment.exe to write comments. I've implemented a UTF-8 function which I found on the internet to decode UTF-8. It appears to be working fine for most European characters, however, I have a Russian user using WinXP who is entering Hebrew characters such as

MP3/Vorbis comparision
In my efforts to convince people to hear how good Vorbis is when compared to MP3, I'm gonna be encoding tracks from my CD collection to both formats, then writing them to audio CD, so people don't have to install extra software to hear the difference. Has anyone got some suggested specs for the options for MP3 encoding when using CDex or Chun-Yu's MP3 writer for winamp (preferably in

[Flac-users] CD archival best practices?
Goals: 1. Store meta data 2. Be able to recreate and burn bit-for-bit accurate audio CDs from archive. 3. Be able to "generate" lossy format files (OggVorbis,MP3,etc) with meta info intact when needed. 4. One file per song. 5. Files playable in XMMS and WinAMP3. Questions: Q1. OGG vs FLAC container? Q2. Meta data format? Q3. In detail, how does one do goal 2? Q4. What ripping/encoding

Winamp plugin not recognized at all
I happily downloaded the official beta4 winamp plugin as well as Mattew's versions with VCE interated and with/without the dialog. When I installed it winamp (v2.72) didn't recognize it (no vorbis plugin listed in the config, doesn't play ogg files) - same for all of them. I recompiled it myself from Mattew's source with vce - same results. It does recognize the old plugin when

Participate in listening tests
You know it's good; I know it's good. I'm talking about Vorbis at 128 as it currently is in CVS. Please participate in a group listening test of various formats to show how Vorbis 128 has improved since RC2. I have prepared three sample music clips comparing Liquid AAC, MPC, pre-RC3 Vorbis, Lame, Xing, and WMA8, similar to the first test. Except I believe that this time Vorbis

Strange results encoding with latest ffmpeg2theora-0.24 and playback on Directshow through Winamp
Hi Folks, First, I would like to thank the eople in development who are doing so much to develope these great video and audio tools. I use Ogg Vorbis to store most of my music projects in studio and the results are stunning. Quite frankly, in the audio file reduction game, nothing beats Ogg Vorbis and I can personally say this from my own experience. So a huge thank you to the team. I've

Tagging Flac-files in GNU/Linux and Windows
I posted this in the Hydrogenaudio Forums (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=31347) but I'll post it here as well, hope that's ok... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I am having a lot of problems with tagging FLAC-files. Update to question about skipping at the end of the FLAC file
I just finished ripping a bunch of FLAC files from CDs through CDex by using an external encoder, sending the wav file to stdin (FLAC 1.1.2) and I get this weird 1/2 second repeat right at the end of the song that is from a second or two from the end... for example, Shania Twain sings "I feel like a woman!... a wom..." ... I get that extra "a wom..." at the end. Every song I

Vorbis Comments ect
Hello, I'm just letting everyone know that I've begun the preliminary part of putting together a working comment system. I have a few idea's on how to implement this system. 1. What I would like to do is grab the General and Input SDK's for Winamp first. Then I would like to add to our existing Winamp plug-in the ability to simply add comments via the built in ID tag

bassrumble, take two
Hi, maybe this is of interest for someone out there. I found that taking the difference between an original sample and its decoded Vorbis counterpart is a cool way to mangle sounds (especially voice samples get a nice weird touch :] ). A side effect is that the result is not only exactly what information the encoder omits, it also contains things that it adds to the sample (artifacts). Leaving
