Happy New Year! RC3 Released!
Happy New Year from the Xiphophorus Team. It took longer than we thought, but I think everyone will agree this is our best release yet. With drastic quality improvements and new bitrate management features, this release brings us one step closer to 1.0. Along with all the lovely VBR modes you are used to, you now have millions more. oggenc's quality settings are 0-10 in increments of

Vorbis for PlayStation
you can write your own software mixer that can decode MP3 on the PS2 so I can't see why you can't do that with ogg, however, even mp3 is processor intensive and programers are not going to give up that much processor power which will decrease or detract from the rest of the game. However, I'm sure there are some people out there that have been able to work around this. Regardless, ps1

16 KHz clip-off?
Hello, congratulations to the Ogg Vorbis team - RC2 sounds good. But... RC2 in 128 kbps mode seems to clip off all frequencys beyond 16 KHz. On the tracks I tested Beta 4 gave response even beyond 18 KHz. Some testings on a randomly chosen track: (other tracks gave similar results) Artist: Judas Priest Album: Jugulator Title: Bullet Train Beta4: 127 kbps, ~ 18 KHz (!) RC2: 132 kbps (!), ~ 16

German translation of OggEnc
Hello, I translated OggEnc (RC3) into German language. Nothing fancy. Neither Goethe nor Schiller. Could anyone please make a Win32 build? I don´t have a Win32 compiler. Sourcecode of modified files is available at http://www.metalunleashed.de/oggenc_ger.zip Just replace RC3 files with the modified versions. I hope this is useful for anyone. bye, Maik Merten -- MetalUnleashed:

Memory problems with CentOS box
Hello all I am running CentOS 5 on a small server and I am having very strange memory malfunctions. The computer runs perfectly with no problems whatsoever. From time to time, after a soft reboot, the computer emmits beeps corresponding to a memory fault. It never reboots again until I find and remove a now defective DIMM. That DIMM can never be used again because it is out of order. This just

New Winamp release
Hi, <p>today, Winamp unaskedly notified me of a new release, v2.78. I checked the what's-new-page on winamp.com (it does only mention a few fixes and cddb2 support, not that I needed that) and downloaded the full install, hoping that Ogg Vorbis support is finally included. D'oh, since I installed it into the 2.77 install directory will all the plugins already installed, I can't

What kind of Ogg Vorbis-services you would like to have?
Hi! What kind of services, which use Ogg Vorbis or create value to Ogg Vorbis-user, you are interested? I'm a student at Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, and I'm taking a course in which we are supposed to create business plan for some new business. So, I happened to bump to Ogg Vorbis in the Intenet, and I Thought, Wow that's a really interesting product

PXELINUX, pxechain.com and Etherboot
Hi, Anyone has tried to use pxechain with Etherboot? Here is my problem: The Etherboot client had no problem to get the list of install servers manual from the pxechain. But didn't matter which server was chosen, Etherboot client always tried to use the first server to do the installation. Etherboot 5.4 was used. What the problem may be? PXEchain or Etherboot? Thanks, Joyce --

Lossy Audio Compression Research
Hello everyone, I'm a student at the Universtiy of Delaware, and will be soon starting some research on the effects of lossy audio compression on speech sounds. I will be preforming test with both mp3 and vorbis. First of all, if I use the '--ogg' switch to lame, does lame use GPSYCHO to encode the wave, or some other psychoacoustic model (perhaps one designed for

Also.. Relaying
I've been working with AudioActive the last couple of days to fix their behaviour... looks like they're going to update their firmware EPROMs. What are the chances that Michael's fix below could be incorporated into a future version, so that all those boxes without the Firmware upgrade will work? -Ian. <p>On 10-May-04, at 7:20 PM, Michael Smith wrote: > On Tuesday 11

Some pre-RC1 listening tests
Hello everyone, ff123 compiled Monty's branch of the RC1 encoder, see his post on r3mix.net forum: http://66.96.216.160/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=c&action=display&num=994299736&start=30 Anyway it only supports ~128kbps mode, so I did a quick listening test with some files that bugged vorbis beta4. grace.wav - the right channel is still a bit watery, and I think this can be seen

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there. While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder. First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76 on Windows 98 SE. 1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played. 2. I check the option of

Why are virsh vol-upload/vol-download so slow?
I was interested in using 'virsh vol-upload' and 'virsh vol-download', rather than mucking about directly with the filesystem. But while simply copying the image is relatively quick: # ls -l /var/lib/libvirt/images/centos-7-cloud.qcow2 -rw-r--r--. 1 qemu qemu 1004994560 Apr 15 2015 centos-7-cloud.qcow2 # time cp /var/lib/libvirt/images/centos-7-cloud.qcow2
