An handful of tags !
Another problem I would like to speack about : tags. Each format appears to create its own tag. TwinVQ and WMA tags are limited but Mp3 has a good tag system (although the "genre" category could be improved). Now ogg develops a new kind of tagging. I imagine converting all my tags with thousand of tracks... real nightmare... Is there an authority or a project to standardiza tags ?

Hi, I'm attempting to star Wine (as root). What does it mean when Wine-20011004 tells me that I need the "-desktop option to use the native USER" ? (start fails then) I don't understand because my install is Wine-only (no Windows so built-in should prevail over native), the .wine directory and the C: drive are all ./tools/wineinstall -generated. My config is Mandrake8.1 kernel

sound quality
i'm recently started to encode my cd's into ogg vorbis format (192kb/s), and i am very much pleased with the quality. however, i will certainly feel awful after encoding 1gb of files and beta5 comes out, claiming to increase the sound quality. in other words, should i be using ogg vorbis for long-term audio storage without fear that those files are crappy quality and should be

This is a linux from scratch based on the 2.4.13 kernel. I'm using a GCC 2.95.3, autoconf 2.52, and automake 1.5. Libvorbis compilation fails with a Signal 11 error as shown below. sound quality / size
Greatly concerned for size, i just ripped an audio cd @ 22050kHz and mono sound. Encoding using 'oggenc -b 1 -', the resulting Ogg file is around 30kb/s. During the encoding process i was "warned" that the encoder is tuned toward 44.1kHz and encoding files in any other may result in degraded quality. How worried should I be? Is the advantage in size lost due to crappy

Scheduled Ogg streams for testing
Well we're testing scheduled Ogg streaming, but it would be nice to test with an audience bigger then me and a few irc users, so I thought I'd drop a note to the list. http://support.bbc.co.uk/oggstreams.shtml This will contain any scheduled tests to come and anything currently being streamed. For scheduled stuff, only things we're given permission to do by producers can go on
