VorbisExt prerelease
Hello All, VCE is undergoing a transformation. I have converted VCE into a shell extension and renamed it to VorbisExt. The pre-release executable and source code is available from: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~spitsw/VorbisExt/ Now you can change the comments of an Ogg file by pressing ALT-Enter or right click and Properties then selecting Comments while in explorer. There is also a new

Newbie here/batch encoding
Hi everyone. I just discovered Ogg Vorbis and I AM IMPRESSED. Here's my question: I want to encode a batch of wavs and I'm not sure how to do it using command line. (The drag n drop version doesn't seem to want to work for me so I won't bother with it.) Anyway, I know the command line has the option "-s" for a series of input files but I'm not sure how to use it. Will

ISO Website-embedded Ogg player
Since Flash has MP3 support built in, it is possible to create a Flash movie that will play a streaming MP3 file. This is useful for when someone wants to have a radio broadcast using MP3 files and they want to create a flash "applet" for playing the broadcast, which could keep the viewer/listener still attached to the website to enjoy other content at the same time. Perhaps such a

OGG/OGM media container
Hi all, Xiph aims at developing open-standards media formats. Though xiph.org tells about vorbis/theora/flac/speex, nothing is mentioned about container to use (that is ogg/ogm). I have a few questions Is there a difference between ogg and ogm? I guess its only the extension that is different and everything else is same. Some tools (like ogmtools) are available to create ogm files. What is

Lossless video codec
I know this probably transcends the scope of the current aims of Ogg video, but one thing I'd consider extremely useful is a lossless video compressor. There are a few of them out there (e.g. PICVideo's lossless wavelet codec) but I've found no free ones so far. The primary use would be for storage of video clips that would be too cumbersome to store as raw frames but still require

newlines in vorbis comments
Is there any way to put a newline character in comments for ogg vorbis files in Linux? I can't see any way of doing it with vorbiscomment. Easytag would work, but has other problems (like concatenating comment fields with the same tag name). Encoding with Channel-Coupling
Hi, I'm planning to re-encode all my MP3s with Ogg Vorbis but I wanted to wait until 1.0 was released because of channel-coupling. I read that would increase quality about 40% at the same bitrate and I didn't want to encode my files wasting all that bitrate ... Now, since 1.0rc1 is released I am wondering if I am actually able to use channel-coupling right now. I installed all the newest

[ot] PCABX problems under win98
I've been preparing some samples of a recent pre-rc4 compile for ABX testing, using the PCABX tool at pcabx.com. I was able to run this successfully under win95/osr2 earlier, but now under 98se, no dice. All I get is an error message reading: "Component 'MCI32.OCX' not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid". I found the file online and tried putting it in

Vorbis support in Winamp
I would like you guys to test the latest version of my plug-in: http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/in_vorbis.zip This one is considered the final version and there are no known bugs in it, but you might be able to find some. quick notes: * HTTP seeking is as slow as hell, don't use it. * UTF8 stuff should (finally) work correctly now. -Peter PS. Better genre editor user IS being worked on.

OGG question:
Here's a question I have: My understanding is that OGG is a 'containter' format, allowing for multiple streams of multiple types, of which Vorbis is only one. My question is this: Is it feasable (and, considering licencing, leagal) to create an .ogg file that contains, say Indeo or Cinepak video? (In other words, use the ogg bitstream to store the data rather than .avi).

channel coupling in rc2
This question has probably been asked a zillion times, but I'm either too dumb or too lazy to sift through the archives, so I'll ask it here again: Which of the bitrates in RC2 utilize channel coupling and which don't? And when can we expect to choose for ourselves whether we want to use channel coupling at any particular bitrate? Thanks for your patience, mlf -- Michael Flegel,
