format of http stream?
I am streaming ogg via inetd. Basically, I am outputing like: oggenc -Q -b 1 -o - /some/wave/file.wav This works fine with ogg123 (other than that I want the bit rate to be lower than 55-100 range that it is doing). I am using: Ogg123 from vorbis-tools 1.0rc2 OggEnc v0.8 (libvorbis rc2) But, FreeAmp for Windows slowly buffered up to 100% then said "Skipped Corrupted File". And

Vorbis stream up now
Greetings: If you're using the latest XMMS (CVS preferably), FreeAmp, Sonique (?), or ogg123 (maybe), please check out this URL for a Vorbis playlist stream: http://64.108.112.34:8000/shouter.ogg The playlist is lengthy, and I've set it to repeat three times, so it will be on-line for a while. Please let me know how well or badly the stream was received, thanks. Best

questions about artifacts in low bitrate streams
Hello- I recently downloaded Verbs and started playing with the encoder. The quality was great when I encoded a few samples at medium and high bitrates, but when trying to encode the same clips at 16 kbps, artifacts are audible during playback- short bursts of screeching noise, not just distortion. I'm using oggenc 1.0 beta 4 to encode, sonique to play back on Windows NT. I've also

Problems with xmms & freeamp
Hi all, I've just set up a test icecast2 server (download and compiled from cvs about an hour ago) - very simple setup, all it does is use ices to stream in an .ogg file that I converted from an mp3, using mpg123 & oggenc. (I've used the sample conf files with the directory stuff removed. I've also tried it with and without the re-encoding lines from the ices-playlist.xml file).

Low-bitrate-compatible vorbis decoder/player?
Hi list, I'm doing some experiments with relatively low bitrate encoding, and can't find a player/decoder that works consistently. Winamp and freeamp seem to choke up when you try to play low-bitrate vorbis files. There's mention of an ogg123 player/decoder, but it doesn't seem to be includeed with the vorbis-tools package as advertised. (Does anyone know where it is? Is

another Icecast2/Vorbis test stream
Greetings: Yes, I've placed another test stream on-line. Thanks to the feedback from members of this list, I've taken a few extra steps. 1) According to DSLReports, my uplink today is 137 kbps. It may actually be a little faster, they say that Netscape's reporting is skewed (and I use Netscape). 2) Thus, I've prepared a set of Ogg files encoded with -b 24 to fit my

just a reminder
Just a reminder to keep testing. The latest builds should be rock solid. The url is: http://i.cantcode.com:8888/stats.xml You can now get stats ouptut by pointing a browser to: http://i.cantcode.com:8888/stats.xml We're looking for more win32 freeamp reports, and any other clients besdies the standard ones (sonique, winamp, xmms, etc). Oh, and I stuck some silly station ids in between

rc2 incompatibilities ?
Files encoded with rc2 (comes from the latest RPM available at vorbis.com) seems to be unreadable for ogg123 < rc2 version (for example, beta4) Is that normal ? Will this file be readable with ogg123 >= rc2 ? Are plugins for windows player updated, can they read ogg files encoded with ogg123 rc2 ? --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:

Java Examples
Where should I look for an example of how to connect to Icecast from Java? (I have a MySQL/Tomcat application with MP3's in the DB and need to stream them using Java and Icecast.) mpg123 with ogg decoder...
I'm building a car audio player based on Cajun projekt ( http://cajun.sourceforge.net ). It uses remote control interface of mpg123 for control play.. I'd prefer to use vorbis format for ripping my CD's but, I still have some music in mp3 format only.. Did anybody consider to put vorbis decoder in mpg123, so it can play al this 4 formats. Or it's better to switch to freeamp ?

RE: Audio broadcasting... (fwd)
Hi vorbis dudes, I've been trying to encourage vorbis use for a somewhat well known person who is doing a weekly internet "radio" program. I guess they are finding out that WMA isnt too cross platform :-) Was wondering if someone could help out with these questions... The encoding platform is windows... Is vorbis suitable for 33.6k/56k streaming yet? Would be a good opportunity

Current hardware requirements for decoding? (skipping problem)
The vorbis FAQ mentions that decoding vorbis should use roughly the same resources as decoding MP3's, but that the current source is not optimized. So what is the current requirement? I have a Pentium 133 with 64 megs and I cannot get .ogg files to play without skipping. I've tried encoding .wav files and downloading .ogg files from www.vorbis.com and playing them on Winamp with

Winamp plugin compile problems and fix/docs
The winamp plugin would not compile. I am using the Cygnus environment (gcc, and a lot of other GNU utils) on Windows NT. _beginthread() is not found. That doesn't look like a function application code should ever call directly. I converted it to use CreateThread and it compiles and works. Change this: thread_handle = (HANDLE)_beginthread(DecodeThread,0, (void *)(&killDecod eThread)

Winamp plugin not recognized at all
I happily downloaded the official beta4 winamp plugin as well as Mattew's versions with VCE interated and with/without the dialog. When I installed it winamp (v2.72) didn't recognize it (no vorbis plugin listed in the config, doesn't play ogg files) - same for all of them. I recompiled it myself from Mattew's source with vce - same results. It does recognize the old plugin when

question about icecast & winamp & media player
Hi, It's been pretty quiet as of late. I have a question. I have an icecast server housed at my provider with a very good internet connection. At work I'm using an ADSL line, which should be sufficient to listen to the 128K streams I'm sending out. However, when I listen with WinAmp, after about half an hour the stream stutters and stops. I can restart it and listen again but it
