Limiting bandwidth to around max. 8k per second - possible? UPDATE
Ok, we got it working with 176x144 resolution.
The following string produced an image that was not falling behind too
much for too long - basically a little when it was getting TONS of
movement, and then catching up fast.
"65 58 110 0 1 1 90 8 120 1 1 "
Now, we need to get this working on a 320x240 resolution, too (as sadly
VP3 does not support 160x120. Seems to be a little senseless,

Limiting bandwidth to around max. 8k per second - possible? Working?
Hello,
I am using the latest binary download from vp32.com, just as a starter.
We try using the VP32 codec in a video conferencing application,
replacing Intel indeo for obvious reasons. I must note that I have
considered contacting ON2 for a license of the VP5 codec, but after
sending emails for amore than a week and never getting back calls after
they were announced, and after not reaching

Web access to CVS tree - any chance this will be re-enabled at one point?
I tried it out on the Vp32 site - nothing in there. Says something of
not matching the current tag. Nice.
Theora's website does not have a web surface.

Installing vp31vfw.dll - how?
Hello,
We put the DirectShow filters on hold till the release of our software
(next week) and will integrate it into the first patch. Till then, our
customers will ahve to live with a VP31 vfw hack.
Now, my problem is that I need to integrate the vp31vfw.dll setup into a
MSI file, because spawning another installer is not exactly an option.
Can anyone post a list of complete registry keys that

Analogue artifact estimation
Hi List,
Just batting a few ideas around here, but would it be possible to include in to the codec, estimation for common video artifacts that occur in the analogue world?
For example, anything that's gone through a composite stage will likely have dot-crawl and false colour - if we can recognise this effect in the encoder, we can treat it as a special case.
Other artifacts that come to

It's quiet. TOO quiet.
Whatever became of Ogg Theora?
There seems to be still almost no news from Xiph or its
developers regarding Ogg Theora. None at all since Mid-December,
when the release of Alpha 2 was pushed back to a month ago...
No news on plans for the second Alpha? No news of development
"roadmaps"? No news on current developments or challenges that
are stalling development? No CVS updates

Using the VP3 ENCODER in a DIRECTSHOW GRAPH wit defined quality and BANDWIDTH - HOW?
Hello,
Due to some licensing changes (and because I actually want to promote
this, too) I want to replace our usage of Intel Indeo 5 with VP3 in a
video conferencing pplication we are just developing (check:
http://www.stnadby24.no/ for infos (english language) on the
application).
My problem is this: I need to define at least the bandwidth. I am
feeding full frames from the camera with a given

OT - how to get BT to present a number
If anyone can help me with this I'll be soooo grateful :)
We have a isdn30 line, with a DDI range. We also have 2 business units that
have separate 0870 numbers that are mapped onto 2 DDI numbers.
I would like to be able to present these 0870 numbers from the business
units so that the correct number is displayed on a callerid, or when 1471 is
dialled.
BT claim that I can only have a

Dealing with MS Outlook winmail.dat on Linux mail server
Dear All,
Does someone do anything on your Linux (or UNIX) mail servers to convert
darn proprietary MS Outlook winmail.dat attachments your users may receive
(occasionally if lucky) into readable e-mail format.
I know quick answer to my question (good quick answer would probably be:
just trash them). Still, being involuntarily immersed into corporate world

new login library alpha release
Hi,
I've just posted an early alpha of a new login record library 'liblogin'
to my website -> http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/andre.lucas/openssh.html .
It's released as a patch, and it doesn't enable itself by default. Read
the instructions first!
This release is missing a lot of functionality, but is tested and
working on Linux (RH6.0 anyway) and OpenBSD. Why you might

New liblogin release
Hi,
I've just put a new version of liblogin[1] on my website. This version
is fully tested on Linux RH6, OpenBSD, HPUX10.20 and Solaris 2.6. It may
well work on other systems now, as it supports login(), [uw]tmp,
[uw]tmpx, and lastlog (filemode only.)
If you're feeling adventurous, please check out the web page and try it
out.
By 'tested', I mean that the library is known to

New liblogin 0.3alpha
FYI a new version of liblogin, 0.3alpha, is up on my website at
http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/andre.lucas/liblogin.html
This version fixes a few bugs and has implementations for the full API,
including 'get last login time' support, even for systems without
lastlog.
New OpenSSH patches against 1.2.2 are also available, to enable the last
login time features. Again, the function (in

Samba PDC and Word
I have Samba running as a PDC and it works perfectly, until that is, a Win
2000 user authenticated by the PDC and with a profile on the Samba server
wants to access Word and then after a minute or so Word crashes, I got the
same result with a Redhat PDC and also with an SME server distro. Informed
suggestions other than dump Word are very welcome...

leaky bucket on bursty multicast
Hi all,
I have an average 2mbit multicast stream that once in a while bursts
high (up to 20mbit/s) in short periods (about 200ms). Could anyone
please help me with directions using tc for configuing leaky bucket
shaping to this stream? I have a 5mbit/s ceiling.
My system is running gentoo linux 2.6.14, and I have compiled in all
QoS modules.
Thanks.

theora test suite
some of you may find this helpful:
I've uploaded a short (5 second) raw clip in yuv4mpeg format, associated audio, and batch files to exercise the encoder & decoder examples. In addition I've included the file as compressed (test.ogg), and a longer version as well to test playback sync.
Notes: to use MPlayer with the -vo yuv4mpeg option, you need to get the latest release and compile

Question about converting VP3 to Ogg Theora
As I understand it the current plan is to make it possible to
losslessly transcode VP3 video to Theora video.
In my experience, one of the "features" of VP3 is it drops frames in
the event that there is little/no movement in a frame, or if "drop
frames" is enabled, to drop frames if the data rate is getting too
high. I understand that the way that VP3 does this in
