rw1020 Rcmd INSTALL path\ deletes rw1020\library\* (PR#789)
The trailing backslash seems to be the culprit.
After looking at rw1020\bin\INSTALL, I noticed
$pkg =~ s/\/$//;
which I assume is to strip the trailing slash from a package name
before obtaining the package name and cleaning out its directory
I added
$pkg =~ s/\\$//;
immediately after this line. Rerunning
Rcmd INSTALL C:\rw1011\src\library\bqtl\
with that change seemed to work OK

error compiling R-1.3.1 from source on WinNT
Dear R-help,
I have encountered some errors when trying to compile R-1.3.1 from source on
my WinNT4SP6 laptop (PII w/128MB RAM). I have installed all the tools
following the instruction in src/gnuwin32/INSTALL, with the exception that
the mingw compiler I have might be a bit older (they are the ones
recommended for R-1.3.0, I believe). I have also compiled the ATLAS
libraries from source using

Hello, happy new year to all.
The new Year gave me a new computer with Win98 and promptly I installed
R on it.
I created a directory R, with subdirectories gcc, perl, bin, helpwrk and
rw1040.
I got rw1040 from BDR place, the rest were gotter from the internet in
the last week of the year, i.e. they are the newest versions.
I modified autoexec.bat to put gcc\bin, perl\bin, etc in the path. I put

Building acepack for Rw1000 under Win98
(Sorry, I had the previous emails on a different machine.)
Thanks to Prof Ripley for diagnosing the problem with
inconsistent capitals under Win98. It's 'interesting':
* I had ...\acepack\Src\Ace.f Avas.f and Rlsmo.f (tar'ed in
a Unix machine and Ws_FTP'ed to the PC)
* when the directory name was changed to ...\acepack\src
it still didn't work

I was trying to learn cross building an R pcakage for windows on my linux

Windows, RCMD INSTALL and path (PR#939)
Full_Name: David Firth
Version: 1.2.3
OS: Windows NT4
Submission from: (NULL) (163.1.103.107)
Two things that look like bugs:
1. RCMD INSTALL does not seem to cope with quotes in the Windows path. With my
path set to
PATH="C:\R\Rtools";"C:\R\rw1023\bin";C:\Perl\bin\;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\
mingw2\bin
I get, for example,

Compiling R Package on Windows
I just installed the R-patched 1.4.0 and for some reason I now have
trouble compiling R packages - I could compile it a few weeks ago with R
1.4.0 released in December. This only happens if I put the --binary
option in.
For example:
Rcmd build --binary cw
returns the error:
make: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/PROGRA~1/R/RW1040/src/gnuwin32'
make DLLNM= \
-C C:/MyRWork/cw PKG=cw

Re: problem posting to r-help list
You are using the wrong make. Please read the instructions very carefully.
You _must_ use the cygwin make with the supplied Makefiles. As INSTALL says:
You will also
need suitable versions of at least make, sh, rm, sed, (g)awk, mkdir,
echo, cp, cut, diff, grep, egrep, pwd, expr and cat; we use those from
the cygwin distribution (http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin and

building a package
Dear R-helpers,
I'm learning how to compile R packages with fortran
routines and use the acepack source as an example.
After some hiccups (Guido told me about the
need to set make_mode=UNIX) I got to the following:
`make pkg-acepack' runs without error (see below),
but it does not
* compile any .f file in acepack/src
* (hence) try to create any dll file or libs

Not striclty a bug but a problem (PR#1250)
Version: 1040
OS: Windows 98 SE
Problem:
I have installed R with all help files to a network read-only drive. help.start() requires rw on two files
../R/rw1040/doc/html/packages.html
../R/rw1040/doc/html/search/index.txt
This is a minor issue as running R 1.4.0 help from the start menu works fine.
Perhaps the next version may address this?

Rcmd SHLIB in rw1031 (R for Win)
Thanks for the answers on readme.packages.
I have installed Rw1031 from SetupR.exe including the option
for compiling source files and, following directions in
www.stats.ox.ac.ul/pub/Rtools, have installed:
-tools.zip
-Perl (Active Perl)
-mingw-1.1.tar.gz
-copied sh.exe to c:\bin\sh.exe
After Perl installation, its directory is added to my path. I have also
added the directory where the R

Yes, changing line 67 of SHLIB as Uwe suggested worked:

makefile for standalone lib
It appears the Makefile.win in
src/nmath/standalone might need some modification since
cd src/nmath/gnuwin32
make -f Makefile.win
make -f Makefile.win test
fails. However if I remove libRmath.a from line 15
OR
modify lines 67/68 replacing Rmath.a with libRmath.a then
make -f Makefile.win test
goes as expected.

problem of compile fortran program
I want to call dll from R but encounter problem in compiling the fortran
program.
First I try "Rcmd shlib prog.f", it failed and warning:
make[1]: `libR.a' is up to date.
make: *** No rule to make target `'prog.o', needed by `prog.a'. stop.
Then I try to compile it by absoft fortran compiler, it works and produces
prog.dll.
But when this routine is called in R, it
