Slow printing between subnets
Hi everyone
I am currently experiencing a number of win xp pro users experiencing slow
printing when access a CUPS/Samba server across 2 subnets. I have noticed
that prior to requesting prints, the printers are in a not ready state. When
a request is made it takes around 2 minutes before the print is processed.
The pc also hangs

slow printing vista
Hi,
We are running samba Version 3.0.28-1.el5_2.1
The directory shares are working well.
But we are experiencing slowness when connecting and talking to the
printers.
Has anyone any ideas about why this could be happening and how to fix it?
For windows XP we solved this problem by deleting registry entrys in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2
But

Printing XP -> 3.2 Now really slow (just like the old days)
Guys,
My wife needed to print something this evening to our normal HP 4 attached to
our cups server running samba-3.2.1-0.1.126. Nothing has changed in the last
two months going from 3.0.28a to the 3.2.x flavor of samba. However, something
has brought printing to its knees.
I pulled out all the old tricks, hacked the registry to delete any entries in

GetPrinter Level 2 does not get devmode
Hi all,
I have uploaded the printer drivers succesfully on RedHat Linux/ Samba
2.2.4 server. I can download and print without any problems. But when I do
Windows API call GetPrinter with PRINTER_INFO_2, the devmode in
printer_info is always null. My code looks like
HANDLE hPrinter=NULL;
PRINTER_DEFAULTS pDefaults;
pDefaults.DesiredAccess = PRINTER_ACCESS_USE;

Samba 3.09, Cups & slow Print Dialoge.
I setup samba 3.09 printing with cups. However the
dialogue box takes about 10 - 15 seconds to load or
even when i switch printer or change properties to
printers. Strangly enough when i add my user account
as a admin in the global section, the problem goes
away. I am running my clinet on XP SP1. Any help
would be great. Thanks!

Samba Printing Extremely Slow from Windows XP
Hi,
I have setup samba server on my linux box (Fedora Core 4 with latest
samba, just updated via RHN) and has configured file sharing via samba
for this server and connecting to it from my windows xp box. So far,
everything works fine and it is very fast.
Then, I configured a printer, and shared it via samba. And, I can
see+connect to it from Windows XP and can even print. But, everything

WINS serving
Hi all,
I use Samba (nmbd) for WINS serving round here.
Any one know how to set up two WINS servers (on different machines for
resilience) using Samba?
Also, whislt I'm on the subject. Suppose I have a machine with multiple
(physical) interfaces, each with a unique IP address. When it ('s nmbd)
registers with teh WINS server does it register all its addresses?
Moreover, when the

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie,
Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would
you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT
and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this
under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines
have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT)..

Two Questions concerning samba - file access times - two instances on one server
Hello everybody,
i have two questions concerning samba.
1st Topic - file times
NTFS has three file times for each file,
the create time, the change time and the
access time. The create time will never be
modified, the change time will be changed
every time you save a file, the access time
will be changed every time you access (read)
a file. If i access a file on a samba share,
the access

W2k devmode
Our server is a SuSE Linux 7.2 with CVS samba 2.2 branche. Version number is
2.2.pre-4. We updated today.
We have a problem with the default devmode in Windows 2000 (SP2) clients. We have
uploaded the printerdrivers to the share print$. The Samba printeradministrator is able
to change the printer capabilities as memory, trays, papersize. etc. Changes are global:

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar.
With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though
landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of
page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a
manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try
Jerry's patch.
In another message Jerry talks about "running"

Default settings for print drivers
Hi. I've finally got Samba to serve up print drivers for the printers I serve.
However, I'm not able to set the default driver options.
This is what I'm doing (from a Win2k Pro box)
Start->Run
\\(samba server)
open Printers folder
right click printer, Properties
Device Settings tab
Configure e.g. default paper size
Click OK
Reopen Properties->Device Settings, and the old paper
