Unable to run SWAT
I'm trying to learn Samba on a Linux 7.0 box. I've just installed Samba
2.0.7. I've been able to run all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.TXT, manually
edit the smb.conf file, and I can even see some folders on the Samba
server from a Windows 98 machine on my LAN. But I am unable to run SWAT
on the Samba Server (or from any other computer on my LAN). Every time

Swat inactive, xinetd issue?
Since I've upgraded to Redhat 7.2 I cannot get swat to work,
I am using the 2.4.7-10 kernal with samba 2.2.7 installed.
I have checked all the applicable files, edited them accordingly as per
Gary Fournerat's
excellent How-to. No joy.
I am pretty certain this is an xinetd issue. I never had this difficulty
with inetd.
I know that SAMBA is running as I can see the server from this

[swat] won't run
The only docs I found on getting SWAT to run, showed editing the inetd.conf
file. As this version of RH (7.3) only uses xinetd things don't fit exactly.
I have gone through and did everything that one should do for inetd and it
still will not work.
I don't normally use the thing, but this client will need the more simplistic
interface to add shares, etc.

correct or am I doing something wrong. I'm using Samba 2.0.0 and the

SWAT conflicts w/ Apache 1.3 HTTP server???
Hello,
I am running a small network, Win., FreeBSD (Unix), & Macs.,
administering through SWAT. Needing to run an intranet I installed an
Apache 1.3 HTTP server running in standalone mode. Now I have lost the
ability to access SWAT through the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:901 port.
Guess it requires some special configuration of the server - SWAT runs
in inetd mode, will this cause a conflict?

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi,
I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make
any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global
definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view
status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons).
This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can
think of is inetd

SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3)
worked great, and I was really impressed.
So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba
2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the
office machine, I use encrypted passwords.
I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no
matter what account, password combination

Samba 2.2.5 - Swat Died
I upgraded this morning to 2.2.5 on both my Linux boxes (Red Hat 7.3)
and now SWAT doesn't work. I have it setup to start on a reboot and I've
tried force turning it off and then turning it back on. I can't even
connect on the actual Linux box, let alone the Windows machines that I
used to be able to connect with.
I get that the connection was 'broken' for port 901. What can I

Help with Swat
Hello!
I am a Linux newbie. I have put a DHCP network together (to share windows
drives on home computers) and I cannot get SWAT to work. On Redhat 7.0, SWAT
is a choice in the settings bar on the Gnome desktop. When I run swat, the
error message is something like "error, connection timed out" from Netscape.
As far as I can tell, the port is inactive "http://localhost:901"
