samba-ldap-debian
Hi all,
I'm pretty new with all this ... but I know that you can configure samba
with the ldap module by doing :
./configure --with-ldap
But how do you proceed with apt from Debian as the only module which
concerns samba is :
apt-get install samba.
it is probably a small silly question but thanx for your help anyway...

replacing a w2k machine with samba 2.2.7a
Hi.
First, i would like to thank samba developers for producing such a good product. Second, i have a few questions/remarks :
I have recently replaced a w2k file server running in w2k domain (native mode) with samba 2.2.7a on RH 7.3 with the latest kernel, no acl, configured winbind, and ran into the problem described here :

users can't set smbpasswd, root can
I just created a new smbpasswd file, all users with unset passwords.
Problem is, users can't set their passwords, only I can as root.
Password is not set / blank, but they still get:

Samba vs NtBackup Round 3.0.5
Hi all,
I experienced the same problem with 3.0.4 that Jeremy and Bruno were discussing - NTBackup unable being to connect to shares and erroring out with 'Access Denied'. I have today upgraded to 3.0.5 (using the Debian Woody packages) and that didn't fix the problem. Was the fix in 3.0.5r1 only applicable to 2000/2003 server? I am stuck in the dark ages of NT 4 here, maybe that is a

It could be that I don't have any shared printers setup; but, the

Thanks,

Domain controller
This is not SAMBA directly related at present. Having trouble getting
NT4.0 server to create domain from fresh install. Plan on using
Linux/Samba box as backup controller -- any hints (will also do e-mail).

VGA passthrough nVidia NVS 295
I want to try to get VGA passthrough working in a Windows 7 x64 domU.
I''m running debian squeeze/testing/unstable with Jeremy''s 2.6.32.x kernel.
The best I got to work is the device showing up under Windows 7, with
all resources and whatnot.
I''ve applied the vga-loadbios patch and vBAR-pBAR patch to xen, and the
vBAR-pBAR patch to qemu-dm.

ACL set up yet Security Properties not sticking.
Hi,
On a windows client if I attempt to modify the permissions on a file which
resides on a linux server, when I hit "apply or ok" my changes are lost.
Doing it from the unix cli (using setfacl) works as expected and the
changes are not lost.
Yet on windows if I right click - properties - Security. select add, add
a user or group, hit Apply and the user/group I just added is

Encrypted passwords
Is there a tool, either for Perl or C, that will add/change the NT and
LM encrypted passwords in the smbpasswd file? I know about the
smbpasswd command, but I can't use that function from a script. I tried
#!/bin/perl
system("smbpasswd \< $oldpassword\n$newpassword\n$newpassword\n");
and some other things, but I couldn't get it to work.

smbd processes won't go away
Running Samba 2.0.6, on Sun SC1000 (4 CPUs) with Solaris 2.6
smbd processes don't seem to terminate although the connections don't
show-up with netstat. The client session seems to terminate, and the
connection is terminated, but the smbd process seems to hang around waiting.
smb.conf specifies "deadtime=5", and in most cases there is no open file

unix password sync not working
Hi,
I have a samba server configured with SECURITY=USER and am having
trouble getting the UNIX PASSWORD SYNC to work. When I use smbpasswd to
change a samba user password, everything goes well and the samba
password is changed but the unix password is not changed. Per the
manuals, samba trys to change the unix password first and if it fails,
it will NOT change the samba password. However, the
