On my Samba-server (normal) users aren't abled to change their password. When they use smbpasswd they are asked to insert the old password, the new pasword and to confirm the new password. After the confirmation of the new password they receive an error: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid. Failed to change password for dennis As root it is possible to change all users passwords. Does anyone have a solution? Dennis
I found out the problem can be solved when changing "unix password sync" in /usr/local/etc/smb.conf from true to false. At this moment the password sync doesn't work. I don't know why, it a real pain in the ass to get it working. When setting "unix password sync" on false the smbpasswd does work, but then I won't get the password sync working. Does anyone have a clue about this? Hi! I have a problem with smbpasswd. When a user tries to change his samba password with smbpasswd, it asks for the old and new password and then gives the following error message: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the session setup. Error was : NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. Failed to change password for schweitz 'ls -lu /etc/samba/smbpasswd' shows that the file isn't even read during the attempt to change the password. Everything else works fine: I can logon from windows machines and I can access all shares with smbclient. I'm running the lates rpm (samba-2.2.7-3.7.3) from redhat on redhat 7.3. Does anyone know what's going on here? TIA Ulrich -- Ulrich Schweitzer Institut fuer Flugzeugbau, Universitaet Stuttgart 0711/685-2409
