samba ssh
I've got a situation where my webdesigners (win2k) are located on a
different subnet (and location) than the samba server.
I need a way of using a local (to the webdesigners) machine (linux) to use
SSH and port forward to the remote samba server. How does one go about
doing such a thing?

Sage Line 50
Hi all,
I am attempting to get Sage to support their software if the files are
on Samba (Linux). They (like a lot of people I've heard) say "We don't
support Linux, Goodbye." even when the client is on Win98/NT. We have been
having trouble on a particular site, and they refuse to support Sage Line
50 if the files are on Linux which is absurd, because Linux is much more

Cannot see list of users!
Hi,
I have got a samba PDC and want to use user level security. To use this
I need to get the list of users and groups from the PDC.
On WinME this works fine, but Windows 98 cannot see this list (and I
have many Windows 98 clients).
Because it works on ME using the samba configuration I don't think it is
a samba problem. What can I do to see the list of users?
Thanks

SV: SV: Problem regarding installation
OK! I'm sorry about this. As I wrote earlier I'm totally lost... but I will
try to
explain the problem in steps bellow, ok.
1. I installed the rpm's for samba, Version 2.0.2a-ssl I think this is the
version
distributed with redhat linux 7.0
2. Then I changed the parameters in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file,
and in this file I added the folowing parameters.

that the win2k client which succeeds in printer driver uploading to my
samba server doesnt do spoolss requests at all... but rpcclient does,
and fails.
btw, if anyone just needs more input on that, how on earth should I know
if nobody tells me?

Long logoff times - Win2k Client, Samba 2.2.2 PDC
Hi Folks:
I am seeing excessively long logoff times on my Win2k clients - I am using Samba
as a PDC.
Excessively long == 6+ minutes. Network is 100BT switched. Total cable feet
between client and server (including switch) - 10 foot. According to the
switch, both machines are running at 100BT speed, full duplex.
There is what appears to be a lot of network traffic between the client and the

Home shares staying (NT4)
I am having the same trouble with automatically mounted home shares with
samba 2.2.1a (PDC, domain logins, roaming profiles) and NT4WS sp6a. If
I login as one user, logout, then login as another, I can view the
previous users home share as well as my newly logged in users home share
(lather, rinse, repeat...). The NT box has a machine account, domain
logins work, profiles work, login scripts

WinXP Pro 'Loses' Samba Server
I have Samba running on my web server (it's not a major file server or
anything) so that I can access files on it from my local network. Mainly
things like I can view my webalizer pages thru a local machine, or to
copy files over for installation.
Anyway - every 2-3 hours, I 'lose' the connection and have to reboot the
WinXP machine (yeh, I know - 'Rule #1 of Microsoft - When in

semaphore timeoit period expired (root is full)
I have had samba running on my freebsd box for about 2 years now, and my / partition is 50MB (it is just a fileserver with ssh and
nothing more). However, recently (about a month or two ago) it disconnects itself from my LAN with warnings like: semaphore timeout
has expired. I go to the console on the box and it says that the disk is full (its not, but the root directory is at 101%) I cannot

W2K Office97 File Open or Save problem
Hi all
I have a Samba 2.2.2-3.2mdk build running on 8.1 Mandrake. All the Win9x
clients work fine. The Win2k clients also work fine except that from
within Word or Excel they can't use file open or file save. When trying
to open or save a file on a drive that is mapped to the Samba share then
the app says that the user does not have enough privileges on drive x:
The file can be opened by

How does Linux see Windows servers?
So now that I'm looking at Linux as an alternative people tell me to use
Samba. It seems to be that Samba is so Windows can see *nix servers. I
need for my Linux desktops to access Windows servers.
What are my options?
Thanks,

LFS Stuff
Hi,
The LFS page hosted on suse's servers states that smbfs has probs with
large files and it seems to be a bit out-of-date.
http://www.suse.de/~aj/linux_lfs.html
I can't correct him with authority, but maybe one of the team should.

smb.conf question
While the Samba server is running, does it ever refresh the contents of the smb.conf file, or do you have to restart the server for it to see changes to the smb.conf file? Thanks in advance.

samba as win2k
Hi,
is it possible for samba 2.2.4 to register itself as win2k (nt
5.0). I
need it because of a win2k domain serwer which I must use and whose
security policy disallows clients older than Windows 2000.

REPOST: Changing from Mixed mode to pure Active Directory
I need to move a Samba 2.2.1 server form a Windows 2000 Domain network that
is currently running in Mixed mode with a domain name if "ABC" to a pure
Windows 2000 Active Directory network with a domain of "ABC.net". Do I need
to do anything other than change the domain controller name listed in the
password server property in the smb.conf?
Thanks!
