AW: Samba across subnets?
If you don't want to type the ip adress of your samba server every time you connect, add a entry to your local hosts file and lmhosts file. You will find this files (and sample files with extension ".sam") in the windows main directory of Win95 and under "system32/drivers/etc" on WinNT 4.0. Samba and newline characters.
Hi, I've been looking through the news archives but haven't found this.. Perhaps I just didn't see the forest for the trees... :) My question is about the format of text files. Files created on Linux show up on Windows (via samba) without the newline. Is there a parameter setting that I'm missing? How do I get compatibility between the two? Thanks, Mike -- "My Humility

*** BUG? ***
Hi! I've installed RedHat 6.1 on a Pentium 233. I'm using samba 2.0.5a which came with RH6.1. On another PC (Pentiun-II 400) I've installed Windows NT 4.0. These two PC's are connected to the same network. I've configured Samba to share the home directories on the Linux System. I'm able to reach my own homedir from NT. Within NT I've assigned this share to drive L.

AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter. Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this: ... PC-PRINTER:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\ :mx#0:\ :lp=/dev/null:\ :if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\ :sh: ... Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your manual. Now create the filter

where to get timesync.pif ?
The Samba FAQ mentions a program called timesync to update the system clock on clients from the server. The download address in the FAQ is out of date - where can I get a copy ? Windows Profiles not being placed in defined logon path
Hi there everyone, I recently upgraded to 2.0.6 from 2.0.5a in a hope to improve data integrity (I was having oplock_break problems that would affect the integrity of a lot of Excel files). So far so good with the oplock_breaks (even with oplocks reenabled). :-) However, I've started having problems with the clients' Windows profiles not being placed in my defined logon path.

Unwanted browselists
Is there a way to prevent browselists from machines other than those of my choosing to show up in the browselists/network neighbourhood? I don't want win95 clients that offer shares themselves to show up in the network neighbourhood. Michel. -- Michel van der Laan - michel@nijenrode.nl http://www.nijenrode.nl/~michel

Linux/NIS+
Hello, I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir' that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.

Incomplete browselists with %G
When I build an smb.conf using a line like: include = /usr/local/samba/lib/%G.conf then it works beautifully for the shares that are listed in the appropriate <primary group>.conf files, that is, I can connect to them and all... However, I can only _browse_ the shares listed in the main smb.conf file, not the ones in the <primary group>.conf files that should be included, even

smbclient does not show.....
Hi, this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields empty), but I do see a lot of things

Refresing browselists and some Packet logging
Hello, I am running Samba 1.9.18p10 using Linux 2.0.36 and Samba is configured as a WINS server. It's working fine but there are some questions remaining: the first one is: - when somebody who was connected to the network turns of his computer he will still stay in the browselist for about 30 minutes. I was wondering if there is a way to shorten this time. The wins.dat file is not containing

different browselists on multi homed server
Scenario: One Samba server with multiple network adapters each hooked to a different network. Question: How can I configure Samba (nmdb) to show different shares when browsing the Samba server from clients connected to the different networks? Background: The nmdb is always running in a single instance, doesn't matter how often it is started. Regards Richard

AW: Machines not disappearing from browse list
I've exactly the same problem. My config looks similar to yours: 1 samba as wins server (wins support=yes" on one segment, 1 samba as "wins server client" (wins server = xxx). The "wins server client" never discards machines from segment 1. I looked at the browse.dat and the wins.dat on the server on segment 1. There are no entries of the shutdowned maschines. Only in

Multiple domain browselist over a wanlink
Hi, I'm trying to generate a multiple domain browselist but I don't get it to work. I've tried everyting by the book but the result is always the same: I can see the other workgroup(s) but they are empty. Currently I've added the following rules to the smb.conf remote browse sync = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4 remote announce = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4 As far as I understand

PEM_read_PrivateKey failed issue
Hello, I'm having a problem with my ssh client, on FreeBSD 5.4 and 6.1 the same issue. OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 FreeBSD-20040419, OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct 2004 but also same problem with OpenSSH_4.3 When I make a key, everything goes fine. When I try to change the password on the key it give me the 'PEM_read_PrivateKey failed' problem, this also prevents me from connecting to another host.

Samba4, browselist, nbt and wins
Hi folks, i'am still confused when searching around for samba4 adc, wins and browselist. In my DCs smb.conf I have activated the server service nbt, defined wins support = yes and could not see my domain controller in browselist. Before provision from samba3 with ldap, I renamed the pdc, because the old one had the same name like the domain (was working well over years). Today my

some shares in browselist not showing up in spite of browseable = yes
Hello, In my smb.conf (or actually, in "committees.conf" included from smb.conf, a defined share does not show up in the browselist, nor any other share defined AFTER that particular one (either in that file or in smb.conf after the include statement). The shares are accessable though (when mapped to a drive letter or used as UNC). Ofcourse I tried to look for odd
