The Samba FAQ mentions a program called timesync to update the system clock on clients from the server. The download address in the FAQ is out of date - where can I get a copy ? We have one machine that's synchronized to several of the Stratum 1 timeservers on the Internet. It broadcasts NTP to the LAN, which enables K9 to be used. It _only_ listens for NTP broadcasts, while Tardis can be set up to poll for time to one or a specified list of timeservers. Both very stable, both run as a service under NT, both have very reasonable licensing terms. Here's where to look at/obtain them: http://www.kaska.demon.co.uk Jim -- Jim Watt jimw@PE-Informatics.COM Perkin-Elmer Corporation Voice (desk): +1 408 577 2228 PE Informatics Division Fax: +1 408 894 9307 3833 North First Street Voice (main): +1 408 577 2200 San Jose CA 95134-1701
You can create it with both hands tied to your back (provided you have a pencil near and skilled lips & tongue :) Create a new shortcut in your desktop and when Windows asks for a command line type this: NET TIME \\SERVERNAME /SET /YES Where SERVERNAME is the Network-Neghborhood name of your Samba server. Then give it the name TIMESYNC. After that, alter its properties so that (1) It runs minimized and (2) it closes upon exit. You'll see that double-clicking your newly-created icon syncs your clock with that of your server. You may instruct Windows to run the PIF every time you log on, for instance moving it to the "Start Menu/Programs/Start" folder or writing its name after the LOAD= line in (ouch!) WIN.INI. Don't try to have it run before logon; it won't work. CUL8R Geoff Short wrote:> The Samba FAQ mentions a program called timesync to update the > system clock on clients from the server.
