Many processes per user
I have a samba server that starts creating a lot of processes for each connected user, until it renders the system unusable. Then restarting samba solves it all. The last time it crashed I saw 10-12 processes per user. The number of processes keeps growing until we restarted samba. Right now it's working but I see there are 25 of smbd from root. That wasn't happening before. I recall

Shockwave - any progress?
I have achieved much of what I wanted to achieve using Wine, with one exception. I was hoping to be able to use Shockwave content, but despite installing Firefox and the Shockwave plugin, it does not work - it seems to stop after the promotional film before the actual requested content. I know there are "pay" solutions to this problem, but was wondering if anyone had found a free

Programming: loop versus vector oriented
Dear all, I am new to R and to it's programming philosophy. The following function is supposed to work on a vector, but I can't figure out how to do that without looping through every element of it. Is there a more elegant way? Note: I have shortened it, so it is NOT correct from the pipe hydraulics point of view # Calculate wall friction factor # reynolds: Reynolds number # dk:

Windows 98 Preformance
I have Samba on a HP-UX 10.20 box and a Windows 98 and NT clients. We are using Samba to just share the Unix drives, the clients get their main stuff from an NT domain structure. On my NT client connected to a share, when I go into file manager for an example I get the directory structure almost instantly. However when the 98 client does the same exact process on the same exact share, it take

Problem with exported Optical Drive
Hi, I'm using Samba quiet a while and never had a problem I couldn't solve for myself. Now I've got one :) Everytime I write files > 30 MB on my exported Fujitsu M2513A Windows is terminating with "Network share is no longer available". The Windows progress indicator shows nothing, but the file is written and then discarded (after the error message) ! Now I've set the

configure bombing with "no locking available"
Hi! I just went from RedHat 5.2 to SuSE 6.1, and now I have a problem with the configure script bombing with "ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe" "configure: error: summary failure" The source I am trying to compile is 2.1.0-prealpha, and I think this is very weird, because I run samba 2.0.3(precompiled) on it now. On the RedHat, everything compiled

[RFC] [lld] Replace use of 'concurrency::parallel_for_each' with standard library
Hello all, Last year I submitted a bug regarding the use of 'parallel_for_each' and Windows Concurrency Library. We have found that when compiling in Visual Studio 2015 and 2017 with /MTd, the use of 'concurrency::parallel_for_each' can cause unhandled exceptions when the program is exiting. https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34976 After having some difficulty clarifying this

INN removed from CentOS 6
I use inn to make internal company announcements and discussions available to remote offices. I note inn is removed form RHEL 6. What replaces inn? http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Technical_Notes/apc.html Will inn be available from elsewhere? Will I have to compile it? Should I modify my scripts to create and install html files for a web server? That would

Failure to rename files that have active file handles
We have just installed Samba 1.9.18p10 on an Ultra Sparc, Solaris 2.5.1 . So far we have been very impressed with the resilience and performance of Samba in contrast to Hummingbird and Solstice NFS products while doing large product builds on our NT4.0 sp4 machines. However we have come across one little problem, which may be down to configuration, that has left us "worried" about

Locally cached files
I've just upgraded our little network here to 2.0 beta 5. The server is a Data General Intel box running DGUX R4.20. Compile and install went incredibly well and things have just about working straight off. However, we experienced a little 'funny' this afternoon. A user was creating and deleting a postscipt file in a Unix directory. She then used Ghostview on the PC client to
