Windows NT 4.0 SP3
I have Samba 1.9.17p2 and it works great on NT4.0 SP2
When I update to NT4.0SP3, my Samba connection gives me the following message:
The account is not authorized to login from this station.
Did something change?
Maybe NT4.0 SP3 uses a smb.conf option that wasn't used before?
I've installed the package version from the Solaris 2.5 web site.
I'm actually running Solaris 2.5.1

"Not listening for calling name" error - huh?
Hi all,
I have two samba machines running v1.9.18p4. When I try and list the
shares on the second machine (calvin) fromn the first machine (hobbes) I
get this:
Session request failed (131,129) with myname=HOBBES destname=CALVIN
Not listening for calling name
Try to connect as another name (instead of HOBBES)
You may find the -n option useful for this
Any idea what this is trying to tell me?

Hiding shares in Network Neighborhood?
Hi all -
I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about Windows
networking, but I've managed to get samba (latest version) up and running
and even have a cool netlogon script :)
My config has shares for [homes] and [netlogon] and [foobar] (a test).
When I look around in Network Neighborhood it lists homes, netlogon,
foobar, and philip (my username).
Is there some way to make

Browsing across subnets - network star configuration
Hi all,
I am trying to find a setup for browsing across subnets, however the
BROWSER.txt document doesn't cover this situation:
I have a network in a star configuration with a Linux machine acting as

Dissapearing samba servers
Hi
I've seen a couple of people post this problem, but I've never seen an
answer, and now it's happenning to me.
I run Solaris 2.5.1, and samba-1.9.17p1.
Every so often a pc can look in the network neighborhood and the samba
server just isn't there, though you can still map a network drive by
using a UNC pathway:
\\server\share
so the share is still out there but the server

Triggering processes through Samba
Hi,
I need to upload data from a barcode scanner into a Progress database
on UNIX. The barcode reader is attached to a PC. We have set it up in
this way that the barcode reader creates a file in a directory shared
by the PC and an HP box. A simple daemon on the HP scans the directory
and triggers a program to upload the data whenever it finds a file in
that directory.
I was wondering if

Browsing across subnets - some more problems
Hi all,
I am still battling to get browsing across subnets to work.
I just need some clarification on some issues. I understand the
following things to be the case, please correct me if I am wrong:
- Machines on a subnet will periodically announce their existance by
broadcasting to everyone their identity
- Other machines will hear these broadcasts, and add the machines to
their browse lists.

Logon script
Hello,
I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients,
logging into Samba Netlogon service.
When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then
I get
"Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A
user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session.
I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

Password Hashes
In einer eMail vom 30.08.98 05:55:16 (MEZ) - Mitteleurop. Sommerzeit schreibt

This is nice. Every other user on the system can see that hash with ps. I
would not call that extended security.

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module
and assigned IP) with samba?
Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made
it work? FAQs
tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is
the server? Trust me,
the HP doesn't know jack about port 139.

Windows95 client does not get list of domain users
I have a Slackware 8.1 with Samba 2.2.4 configured as PDC on my network.
I have a Windows95 client (OSR2, USB supplement) that can't get the list

Icons in Windows95
Hi.
I don't know much about samba, so I thought someone could help me on
this one:
I'm using a Sun with Samba server to store all the applications used on
the network. The problem is that icons for those applications will not
show up in Windows95.
If I make a shortcut form a .exe file on the samba-server, the shortcut
will show on the desktop with windows standard icon, and not the

R-beta: How do I dyn.load in R for Windows95?
I am currently running R under Windows95.
I am entirely new to R in any environment, with no prior experience of S

either.
I want to run some functions written for S-plus and residing in a file
"cat.s". The
fuctions also call some Fortran routines residing in a compiled fortran
file "cat.obj"
In S-Plus as I understand it I am supposed to first

R-beta: R for Windows95
There is a zip (RApril.zip) which should now be at the mirrors
in R/Windows. Please have a try and let me know of any problems.
I haven't been able to test it on very many machines here so
I really don't know about 3.11 or NT.

'dialer' application to trigger call between hardphone and number
Does anyone know of a small lightweight windows 'dialer' application I can use to trigger a call (via call file or AMI) from any application? (The call would be placed between the target number, and the preconfigured DN of the hardphone at the user's desk)
Ideally a phone number would be 'selected' from within any windows application and the call would be triggered via

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a
Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end.
The SAMBA print command I currently use is:
print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \
lpr -P %p %s ; \
rm %s
;
These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will

LP print service stalls
Hi All,
When our server receives simultaneous print jobs from 2 or more clients, the print service stalls and I have to manually restart it (lpsched).
I am running Samba 2.0.4b under Solaris 2.5.1 on a SPARC 20 and I'm using system V printing. The printers are connected to the ethernet using HP Jetdirect cards and administered by jetadmin on the Sun box.
Any ideas on how I could troubleshoot
