Hi I've seen a couple of people post this problem, but I've never seen an answer, and now it's happenning to me. I run Solaris 2.5.1, and samba-1.9.17p1. Every so often a pc can look in the network neighborhood and the samba server just isn't there, though you can still map a network drive by using a UNC pathway: \\server\share so the share is still out there but the server dissapears every so often. Any clues would be much appreciated. Ian,> I've seen a couple of people post this problem, but I've never seen an > answer, and now it's happenning to me. > > I run Solaris 2.5.1, and samba-1.9.17p1.First suggestion would be to upgrade to 1.9.18p4. Your problem may disappear.> Every so often a pc can look in the network neighborhood and the samba > server just isn't there, though you can still map a network drive by > using a UNC pathway: > > \\server\share > > so the share is still out there but the server dissapears every so > often.Would you describe the structure of your network? It sounds like you've got a problem syncronizing local master browsers on a multiple-subnet IP network. Of course, if your network is all in one subnet this can't be the problem :)> Any clues would be much appreciated. > > Iain > > ps What is the equiv of samba for macintoshes if there is one??Netatalk. Also there is a security issue with 1.9.17p1 that urgently requires you to upgrade !> ps What is the equiv of samba for macintoshes if there is one?? >A SMB client for Macs is 'Dave' from thursby systems. Hi I also had this problem - but this problem also accurs when using ONLY win95 clients on a network. (Actually a friend of mine connected TWO Pc's with an ethernet - and it took 10-20 minutes or so from starting the second pc until both pc's could see each other when browsing the net...) I solved this problem when using samba by adding preferred master = yes local master = yes domain master = yes (no - i'm NOT using domain-controlling) os level = 255 wins support = yes to my smb.conf, and by adding the samba-server as the primary wins-server to all my clients. Hope this helps greetings, fgp ____________________________________________________________ E-Mail: fgp@fgp.atnet.at (Mail me for my PGP 5.0 public key) ____________________________________________________________ This Mail was created with: __ ___ / / / / / / \_/ / / ___ ___ __ __ __ __ / / / / / /__ / / / / \ \/ / / / / / / __ \ / / / / \ / / ----/ / / / / / / / /__/ / / \ /_______/ /__/ /__/ /__/ /______/ /__/\__\
