Forum software is rubbish.
Hi,
I just tried to register for the wine forum, and noticed several
really annoying things about the process:
1. The "Register" link is kind of hard to find. Normally it is just
next to the "Forgot password" link.
2. No SSL.
3. You emailed me my password! Argh! This is a terrible idea for
obvious reasons, and also implies:
4. Passwords aren't stored hashed. Seriously.

Re: Editing is disabled
One unfortunate side affect is you also cannot edit the title.
For example, I wanted to mark a question i posted, as solved...
> Edited posts weren't sent to the list, which caused confusion.
maybe there can be a warning added to the editing page, that says edits will not propogate to the mailing list...
what is the real advantage of a mailing list over phpbb anyways?
I can't figure

list spam related question
In the thread "[Wine] New to Wine...and already in trouble..." there was
a spam post by kizi that says it was "Sent from the Wine - Users
mailing list archive at Nabble.com".
Can people really send things to our list/forum from other sites/forums?
It also seems odd that the reply directs a person to catch up on the
thread by linking to Nabble instead of the Wine forum. It

Google newsgroup or Forum setup.
I am sure this has been asked before, but why not use Google newsgroup or at least some forum BBS software instead of this cumbersome mailing list process?

RFD: create new list and forum 'wine-newbies'
It has been suggested that the wine-users list
is now too busy, and needs to be split into two:
one for experienced users, and one for beginners.
However, this might leave the beginners adrift
without any experienced people to help them.
So I don't think we should do it unless at least
a handful of experienced users are willing to join the
new group and lend a hand. I'm willing, but I

Web Forums
We have launched a web forum front end to this mailing list. I wanted to
notify the subscribers of this list to that fact.
http://forum.winehq.org
If you prefer, you can now use this website to browse and post to the
list. Your posts will still be mailed out to the list, and posts to the
list will appear in the forum. You can continue to use the mailing list
as you always have if you prefer

phpbb forum with rails application.
I would like to knock up a phpbb forum with a rails application.
I wanted to do this as I want to use ActiveRecord to crawl through the
user database in the rails app.
Is there a way to do this - on the same domain name and server...
Or does it depend how the server is setup?

Re: Forum Software Update and mailing list gateway
Hey! That's a good news! You should always update the anti-spam software to lessen or most importantly to prevent spammers. About the mailing list, splitting is the right way.

Why no forum app in rails yet?
Hi Guys,
So creating a forums application seems like something that rails can
handle easily and well, and whatever implementation that came to
fruition would be head and shoulders above existing products like
vBulliten and phpBB.
Even the existing rails forums are using php-based forum products! An
insult if you ask me.
So my question -- is there any current development of a rails-based

I feel the same.
I'd like to know exactly what it is that people find so convenient about forums.
I'd also like to know why the wine list archives can't

Again i point out the benefite of a forum in this perticular manner.
It has become apparent that there is someone on this list serve
taking email addresses and sending spam

because i created this email addess specifically for this list serve
It is not listed online anywhere or registered on any webpages.
But i started getting spam in it just

Re: Sum-up: Re-proposal: web forums
Hello, I have noted below problems that we can take care of, and those
that aren't our problem, never were, never will be, impossible to be our
problem, (you get the picture), because they are PEBKAC errors :)
For all of those that don't know: PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between

Hi CentOS lovers,
i have already sent this email to [www-devel] but still no answer. What i
propose to the comunnity is the creation of a full featured forum. Mailing
lists are fine, but one losses a lot of information, how-to's, advices,
and so on.
I currently am a network administrator / programmer /web programmer in
europe and i point the lack of centralized site with information as
