Updating to 0.9.59 (source) from 0.9.58 (synaptic)
I installed Wine from Synapitc Packet Manager on Ubuntu 7.10. Currently it's version 0.9.58, but I can't wait for binaries and want to compile and install version 0.9.59 from source. Will it break my current installation? Will my programs (Steam, Audiosur, Peggle Extreme) need to be removed and reinstalled?
Also, it seems that Ubuntu repository servers are down now, because I can't

Problem running any games with Steam
When ever I try to run FEAR 2 or Half-Life in Steam the "Preparing to launch" window comes up and then disappears. I assume every game I have will do this same thing, but it takes way to long to install anything in Steam.
Both games produce the following output in the terminal:
Code:

Running Debian Wheezy
Hardware: Older P4 3.06 GHz

output is Xorg.0.log)
I recently made some effort to obtain a large pannable desktop like I
have used for many years. And since on newer debian they expect to

Hi Timo,
We have encountered an issue today with a number of migrations. Some customers have mailboxes on the source IMAP server that look like this:

* LIST () "." "INBOX"
* LIST () "." "INBOX.Statements"
* LIST () "." "INBOX.Draft"

smbtar skips files, why?
Hello,
I'm using Samba version 1.9.18p10.
I am trying to backup a Win95 disk with smbtar, but it skips lots of files
without any apparant reason. For example, I have a directory C:\Acrobat3,
with various subdirectories. With smbclient I can see and browse them just
fine:
smb: \> cd Acrobat3
smb: \Acrobat3\> dir

rsync randomly and silently skips files
Hi,
I'm using rsync to sync a custom production environment (binaries,
scripts, config files) out to remote sites. The exact same command
runs twice daily from cron. The command is basically:
rsync -av --exclude somepath /prod_environ/ remotesite:/prod_environ/
Nothing too fancy IMO. And until recently, it has worked exactly as
expected.
But last night, and a few days ago, at least

Winamp plugin skips?
In my cpu, with winamp2.7 and in_vorbis.dll(v0.1), the track skips at the end of the song...It's like it plays the last 1/10th of a sec twice... And it only happens when playing to to the system's sound card, that is, when i play it with winamp's disk_output plugin, the track is decoded correctly...
Has it happened to anyone yet? Coz i haven't seen anyone talking about it...

"read.table" and "scan" skips newlines which "count.fields" finds in Thai textfile
Hi there,
I have some problems reading in a Thai text.
Some of the newlines are skipped.
(see the contents of my file below)
R>count.fields ("my.txt", sep='\n', quote="")
[1] 1 1 1
Three lines with one item each, right?
R> scan("my.txt", what="", sep="\t", quote="")
Read 2 items
[1] "?\x83???\x88
