USB UPS problem
Maybe a kernel USB issue, but people on this list may have encountered this issue.
I am testing a new UPS (EATON 5E 1500iUSB) and am having a problem with the USB connection failing.
My old UPS (EATON Ellipse MAX 1500) works just fine with the latest f30. Both devices identify as

Problem detecting USB/HID UPS
Hi,
I am new to this list, so I apologize if I make any mistakes in posting.
I am trying to set up nut with my Tripp Lite SMART 1200LCD. I looked on
the compatability page, and some Tripp Lite models were supported, so I
decided to try out mine. I have tried both USB and serial connections,
and neither have worked. I am just wondering if this is a problem with
nut supporting my model, or

No matching HID UPS found
Hello,
Network UPS Tools - Generic HID driver 0.38 (2.7.2)
USB communication driver 0.32
No matching HID UPS found
Driver failed to start (exit status=1)
I followed a thread with the same title, more or less, having permission
problems. I applied that solution. My problem seems different.

Hey Thomas,
Are you able to double-check that bisect? I'm not at all sure how
that particular commit could trigger the issue you're seeing. Some of
the others, certainly. It might be worth trying a couple of times
before marking something as "good", in case

way to disable keyboard and mouse ports
Is there a way to disable the keyboard and mouse ports?
I have a machine in a public area running an application
that no-one needs to touch.
However, someone could come up and plug a keyboard in
it and mouse and be logged in as that user (not root).
Is there a way to disable the mouse and keyboard so
only remote ssh connections will control the PC if
changes need to be made.

email and MS outlook
We use Microsoft Outlook heavy at school but our backed is CentOS. I
use echo "Foo" | mail -s "subject" addr at unc.edu a lot. Is it possible
to change the priority to High so Outlook will understand it? The
priority meaning the email will be sent to the normal email queue but
on Outlook it would have the exclamation point.

syslog-ng
Hello,
I know centos does not use syslog-ng, but I have installed it at my
university. My intention is if a particular string appears in my
/var/log/messages I would like to get an email alert.
For example, if i see a message "foo" in /var/log/kern I would like to
email myself.
Any idea how to do this? Has anyone done this before?
TIA

server is always getting hacked
WE have a centos 5.3 install, and our server is keep getting hacked.
We see load averages of 500+ and see people from all over the world
logging into our server (used last).
Is there a good place to start to avoid these kinds of things?
For example, here is what I already did.
Open up sshd port only
setup iptables to only accept port 80 and 22
No FTP
No other ports are allowed according to IP

Non Standard USB HID UPS
Hello, I've already written to the list before about my non-standard hid Unitek

I've tried to use hiddev to access my UPS as its USB HID interface is the same
as the energizerups. Nevertheless, the protocols are different and I didn't
manage to communicate with my UPS through hiddev. Moreover, the problem

works but on others it does not. Typically we restart amd and autofs
to resolve this issue. But sometimes it does not even
