To anyone seeking 911 Service Providers "stay away!!!"
To anyone seeking 911 services Highly recommended to everyone to stay away from this issue I do not have a name for the company right off hand, but they got sued really bad when they tried 911 via VOIP and the 911 drop kept occurring in different areas and someone died! Implement 1 single hard wire for this service and cover your tush! Brad -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

911 Notices
With the deadline coming up for sending notices to customers, I found it curious that out of 4-5 different providers I use, to date only one of them has contacted me. The rest don't even have anything on their website that I could find. Junction Networks was the only one that actually sent me a letter and also have everything right on the first page when you login to their system. A week or

Local Outbound Calls on PRI
I'm in the process of turning up a PRI in one of my markets and have run into a problem I have never seen before. I am unable to place a local outgoing call. Long Distance over the same PRI works fine. When I attempt to place a local call using the PRI I see Asterisk attempt to dial, and am greeted with a busy signal. This signal appears to originate on the telco's switch. I have had

Desired Install in MotorHome
I've got a client who would love to be able to leave an asterisk server running sompelace, and achieve telephone connectivity using an IP phone from within his Motorhome in his words "I want to be able to work from a mountaintop in Glacier National Park" I've done some initial testing, and a SNOM200 SIP phone comes close enough to working that I have not ruled out the idea as

dovecot 0.99 + apple mail.app
hello all, first off, a success story. after much testing and preperation, we've switched from uw-imap to dovecot. i am not kidding when i say that we have experienced an order of magnitude decrease in server load (previously load peaks were 40-60, now they are 3-4). so, suffice to say that the mail admins here are very happy :) one problem that has come up though is particular to

Random Dropped Called
I've got a 4 port T1 card in my Asterisk box with a PRI from Qwest as my PSTN interface. I'm experiencing random dropped calls on the various SIP devices I have tested. Network connectivity to the SIP devices looks ok, and I have tried a variety of the devices including all of the following. Grandstream 286 Grandstresm 486 Sipura SPA 1000 Mediatrix 2102 Some example lines from my logs

Parser Functions
Hi All, Just wanted to put feelers out to see how many people would be interested in having some more extended string operations added to the mainline. e.g. gsub/split.. http://git.black.co.at/?p=module-common;a=blob_plain;f=plugins/puppet/parser/functions/gsub.rb;hb=HEAD http://git.black.co.at/?p=module-common;a=blob_plain;f=plugins/puppet/parser/functions/split.rb;hb=HEAD Also kinda wanted

OpenVZ variant
Greetings, I was reading the LWN article from today (free to non-subscribers next Thursday). Here's a subscriber link for those who might want to see it now: CentOS and Red Hat - http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/592723/485ea802859f6c36/ I saw that Xen was mentioned as an area where CentOS went beyond RHEL with CentOS 6... and being that I'm deeply in the OpenVZ community, I thought it

Vacation Fcc
Hi list, I use Dovecot's Pigeonhole Sieve implementation, and there is one little feature I'm missing: When a vacation message is sent, I'd like to keep a copy of that message in my "sent" mailbox. There is an RFC draft (draft-ietf-extra-sieve-fcc-09) for this, which adds a ":fcc" argument to vacation, but apparently it's not supported by Pigeonhole. I

OT: Potential reasonable solution to the 911 problem, integrate t o Asterisk?
>From Slashdot http://slashdot.org/articles/05/07/21/0135213.shtml?tid=126&tid=95 : "One of the points made is that there is sometimes no way to tell the location of a VOIP phone, which is a problem if you are unable to talk. How about if the VOIP app. insisted that you record a 30 second emergency message (stating your location/name/whatever) when being installed and then watched

911, networks of * servers, etc. (was: VOIP Dialtone?)
OK, that "VOIP dialtone?" thread was getting really out of hand, so I'll condense my answers into one big ugly message: 1) 911 service. Yes, that is one of three reasons to keep your PSTN line. The other two reasons are: Inbound calls from local callers still should work on a POTS line, for now. You can't find VOIP providers in most area codes, so you'll most

CRTC and FCC Feeds
I don't understand why so many government sites fail to provide some sort of feed to their daily bulletins. What I am venting about in specific are the Canadian CRTC and FCC sites, every day I have to go to the website and when I reach the content, usually it isn't even HTML but a Word or PDF file. So finally today I decided to do something about it and wrote a little app that scrapes

Zapata.conf
Hi pals, Pardon me if this question sound basic please. This is the first installation where I have to use the analogue card and therefore a little lusty. I have googled a lot, but though there is a lot of information about the above file, none indicate where the file lives. I have a installed asterisk and zaptel software on a fresh installation of CentOS 5. This all from source and following
