Why should I answer a Newbie question, there thick!
It would be nice just for once to actually use a mailing list with people who are a little more sympathetic to the fact that your not a rocket scentist or molecular biologist and that you might actually need some help, without being made to feel like your completely useless and should be cleaning toilets for a living. "Ahhh man not another stupid newbie question! are these people completely

WOW
I couldn't help but take notice at some of the responses that were coming in from when I was posting questions due to my ignorance of Linux. Some people were quick to help, some advanced users I am sure ignored me because im not worth their time, and then some other users tried to help but was unable to dumb their speech down to newb levels. However I am thankful that there is people here to

!!ATTENTION NEWBIES!!
I've been reading this list for a few weeks now and I've given advice on questions that look challenging but I've deleted MANY questions like these: "How do I (easy question found in the documents)?" Though I don't count myself an expert, I've known enough experts to see that they _HATE_ it when you don't invest some time before asking a question. I too have

Suggestion for noise reduction on Asterisk-Users
Hello all, This might be one for Digium, but I would like to see some type of Wiki that people would have to wade through before they would get the information on how to subscribe to the list. This wiki should cover most of the basic stuff that gets asked over and over again just to help reduce the amount of repetition that most of you have probably noticed takes place here. I understand

Newbie book recommendations for Rails 2.0.
So Agile rails development (covering rails 2.0) is out In October, in the mean time what book should a newbie (with some asp/asp.net development) buy? Please don''t recommend any Pdfs as I have zero use for anything that isn''t in dead tree format. Thanks in advance, --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the

Wine trying to run everything from \\windows\\system32
Okay, I'm a complete newb... but I don't think this is the way things should be happening. I've installed Wine 1.0 (and uninstalled and tried 0.96... same problem) on Ubuntu 8.04 and I'm trying to install Dreamweaver 8. By all accounts, this should be a simple double-click on the exe, but nothing happens. Running the install from terminal results in: Code: wine: could not load

KDE vs Gnome
I think im using Gnome but im not sure. As for using logout command it didn't work that's why I got puzzled and had to ask online since I couldn't find the GUI one which was there but apparently im too blind to see. Speaking of GUI side of things that's why I made the comment about no search features in CentOS. None of my menus offer a search feature in the GUI so I would have to

Logging on the rsync server from a client connect
Please forgive me for the really dumb question following. I am a complete newbie to rsync. I have been trying to set up an rsync server and am unable to get any logging. I need to know if the following is possible. I'm rsyncing from the client and connecting with ssh to an rsync server. I can connect just fine and the files go with no problem. I'm going from a RedHat 7.3 with rsync

question about user written function (newb question)
Quick newb question about R relating to the line of code below: rawCool = read.zoo("cooling.txt", FUN = as.chron, format = "%m/%d/%Y %H:%M", sep = "\t", aggregate = function(x) tail(x, 1)) I'm wondering what the specifics are for the argument where it has "aggregate = function(x) tail(x, 1)". I understand that it removes the last row of

Help on not matching object lengths
Dear All   I have the following code set up: Code #1 a <-matrix(seq(0,8, by = sign(8-0)*0.25)) b <-matrix(seq(8,16, by = sign(16-8)*0.25)) c <-runif(1000,50,60) d <-exp(-c*a)+exp(-c*b)   This will give me the obvious error message of lengths not matching. What I am trying to do here is to have 33 rows x 1000 columns d values calculated in total. As an eaxmple for visual, this is what

Calculating column percentages of a table
Hello, I know, this is a real newbie question, but I can't find anything on this in the manuals! I know that I get calculate the column totals of a table with `apply(mytable, 2, sum)'. Now I want each column total to be 100% and calculate the percentage of each field of the column. How would I do that? Rcommander, the ultimate newb-tool, has a function `colPercents' which is exactly

large dataset - confused
I'm trying to load a dataset into R, but I'm completely lost. This is probably due mostly to the fact that I'm a complete R newb, but it's got me stuck in a research project. I've tried just opening the text file in WordPad and copying the data directly into R, but it's too big and causes the program to crash. Any suggestions or assistance? I'm kinda desperate and

When to make a new controller
Hey all, Ok this is probably a newb question, but I haven''t been programming with MVC for very long, and I''ve been wondering what the general opinion is, or best practices, for making a new controller. Like what cases would you need a new controller for and what cases can you just put everything into one controller? Thanks in advance, Randal -- Posted via

Custom "Windows Welcome message"
Hello - I running Samba as a PDC on FC6 with roaming profiles. I need to setup a custom Windows logon/welcome message... to tell users want they can expect using this domain. Is it also possible to place different PDF files on the users desktop when he or she logs on, but only referencing one source file, so I don't have a copy for each user? What is the best approach? Thank You. Ralf

models @ data extraction
I''m building my first webapp... I have db tables "users" and "posts". Model for user is "has_many :posts". Model for post is "belongs_to :user" In a slightly modified scaffold I can list all the posts and which user wrote them (/post/list), but want to link the username to a list of posts by that user. How do I accomplish that? Sorry for the
