There is lots of information in the archives about using Shorewall accounting (http://shorewall.net/Accounting.html) with MRTG to graph your traffic over time but that only shows the portion of the bandwidth that was actually used.> Second, Is > there a fast and effective way to implement traffic shaping with > shorewall. It won''t give you precise data, but is good for measuring peaks, and spotting trends in usage. See here for an example of our current setup: http://zuiko.sls.bc.ca/mrtg/fw/fw.3.html For example, on the yearly graph, compare Nov with Dec. In November we had problems with accidental rate limiting. These were fixed in December, and usage doubled to over 75% average with 98% peaks. In January, we added delay pools to our squid proxy, and the result was peaks of about 60% ever since, and no complaints from users (about 400 concurrent) as no single user can chew up more than their share of the pipe anymore. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Shawn Wright, I.T.
