wma8 decodings
Monty wanted some samples with which to compare Vorbis and WMA, and he
doesn't have a Win32 machine, so I made some.
Microsoft has made their own demo samples available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/WM8/audio.asp
I took their original .wav's, and encoded them with their wma8 encoder
utility (WM8EUTIL.EXE), using all of the available stereo modes at
44.1kHz. This includes, 192, 160, 128, 96, 80, 64, 48, 32 kbps. I then
used the Advanced WMA Workshop

Open Source Streaming Tool
...nd innovative element of the system is the
Frequency Clock Player. The Player addresses one of the key issues that
producers of streaming media face - the range of different streaming media
formats. Streaming media content can be produced in a variety of different
proprietary formats - for example, WindowsMedia, Real, and Quicktime. When
users play a streaming media file, it opens within a specific streaming
media player. If you watch a WindowsMedia file, it opens in the
WindowsMedia player, a Real file opens within the Real Player and so on.
Users must open and close a number of players in order to view...

For those of us without a windows machine, could someone hand me a
.wav decompression of the windows media samples? Yeah, yeah, I know
the license says don't do it. Be sneaky.
Of course, I think it just boils down to 'Microsoft has an odd

7.1 FLAC...But hao?
I know I've read about it under the FAQ and other various forums a
dozen times, FLAC is able to encode up to 8 channels. But has anyone
actually tried to do this?
I ran across this nifty 7.1 wav sample courtesy of Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/Multichannel.aspx#link6
For some reason the channel mask was incorrectly set to 0x3f, so I
manually changed it to 0x063f (this should be the correct mask for 7.1
eh?). Now trying to just throw that into the reference CLI I get the
following error

real/wm/etc audio stream -> zap extension
All,
I'll admit that I haven't looked very hard for this info, but nothing jumps out at me from the searching that I have done.
Any thoughts on taking a network audio stream (real, windowsmedia, etc), decoding it, and then passing it to a zap extension?
My desire is to be able to call into my via an analog phone, dial an extension, have it connect across the 'net to a preselected source stream, and bridge the two so that I can hear the audio. Basically remotely accessing the stream...

Rails, WML and Videos
Hello everybody,
I was asking myself if there is a way to stream videos on mobile phone
(using Windows mobile - not iphone),
Two possibilities :
- Playing videos using flash or something else directly on the IE
browser.
- Launching the WindowsMedia Player with a RTSP flow to play the
video in it.
I think the second one is the best one, but i want to be sure, and
collect some interesting links to do it !
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my poor english, hope you understood
it !
Bye

Encoding or Playback problem?
Hi all,
Have trouble encoding / playing back OGG using WinAmp + plugin. I encoded
the files from .WAV with Ogg drop RC2. Seems to be ok. When I try and play
them back though I get very very weird sound effects (some kind of
"wobbling", some bass frequencies that are usually in the background seem to
get more emphasised and they seem to have some kind of strange echo / reverb

Hello,
I am trying to run Windows Media Player 11 on WINE and I cant. This is the only software that I need to be windows free since my university posts the lecture videos in WMP 11 DRM format and I cant view them if I dont have WMP11 installed.
It asks for windows genuine verification. Anybody can help? I have wine 1.1.12.
Thanks in advance.

new MS codecs
I thought this might be interesting to you, it's an
extract from the latest streaming media newsletter, I
was intrested to note that MS are claiming cd quality
audio at 48kbps whichi is obviously very low, I didn't
think much of it at first because nobody uses MS
codecs for audio anyway! However (a bit I missed off
this quote by the look of it) I then read mention of
portable audio players

Video codec
Hi,
I guess this is a good time to start putting together a wish list for a
video codec.
I see that for audio the compression is around 10X for reasonable quality.
I am sure this will start its own thread of conversation.
For video you can do 40X fairly easily and the big task is to go to 80X or
100X with reasonable picture quality, say, a peak luma SNR of more than 30
dB. Uncompressed
