ogg player for mac
Hi
Does anyone know of an ogg player for the mac (os 9) that actually works with
icecast. I've tried audion, macamp, unsanity echo, and mint with no results
whatsoever. They all play ogg files from disk, and all grab an mp3 stream from
icecast, but as soon as I try streaming ogg they all fail to regonise it.
(except for audion, which for some reason plays the stream as twice the speed?)

Ogg streams on MacOSX
...alPlayer would play ogg vorbis streams, but they
don't, and a lot of other "solutions" tossed up by Google don't seem to work
either, at least for mere mortals like me. The only ogg-stream player that
installed on a new macintosh this morning and actually got the job done was
Whamb! 1.2, which you can download from http://www.whamb.com in a pretty
straightforward, user-friendly manner.

Ogg Vorbis Player(s)
...sting on the Net in the OGG VORBIS format. I understand that
several French radio stations
(France Inter, France Info etc...) are adopting Ogg Vorbis and I would
like very much to try it.
I have heard of several players such as Ogg Vorbis decoder plugin for
Quicktime 6.2+ under MacOS X 10.2+,
Whamb, Unsanity Echo, Audion 3.
I am using a Mackintosh G4 Power PC, System OS X (10.2.8).
Your help and advice in this matter will be very much appreciated.
Yours sincerely,

Ogg streams on MacOSX
...nt.unsanity.com/

Mint audio plays static ogg, not streamed, last time I checked. Also,
has anyone actually gotten MacAMP or Audion 3 to actually play an ogg
stream from icecast2? I've tried all of them recently, and Whamb is
still the only one that works in my experience. Let's not lead Mac
users astray; it's frustrating enough not being able to use iTunes.

shoutcast to icecast2 issues
btw i just noticed that the icecast2 relay sounds fine in whamb (mac os

problem. here's the relay configs we're using:

ogg player for mac
Hi:
Seems to me that Whamb! needs to be listed on the vorbis.com software page
for MacOSX. This seems to be the best player out there for the mac
(acording to what I've read here and on other lists) and it's not listed
there (or at least it wasn't about 12 hours ago).

Can't listen to a stream from icecast-kh
Yes, but I'm also unable to read that stream from VLC on OS X and Windows
Whamb works on OS X, QCD works on windows.
If it is confirmed that VLC is not working with that header, then we may
ask VLC team to handle that header ?
I downloaded the latest Realplayer, but I'm unable to play my stream...
is it really possible?
or perhaps it is only for mp3? in that case why no...

[Flac-users] Quicktime plug-in?
...d on linux, and vlc handles lots of those odd codecs that
quicktime struggles with.
http://www.videolan.org/
Or ask this guy, he wrote a flac encoder with a Mac interface. Last
time I checked, it didn't support flac playback:

Some of the people behind the whamb player might be interested. Their
player is the only one I know of for the mac that handles ogg streams.

Flac is really cool... I imagine it would be popular with pro-audio
types. If EMagic's Logic and their sampler (EXS24) supported it, o...

I'm running Icecast 2.2.0 on a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp
with the SAM encoder plugin to stream an Ogg Vorbis stream (-0.55
quality stereo) from a remote machine. I'm having two problems.
1. The latest Winamp works great. Whamb on OSX works also (but no
Title/Artist info shows up). But on other players (Zinf and Audion
[OS9 and OSX]) it works great for one song. At song change, the
player stops and I have to reopen the url again. Do I have to add
some kind of fallback for in between songs for these other players??

WMP mp3 stream trouble
...from raw PCM data with
lame --silent -r -x -s 44.1 -f -V 6 --vbr-new file.pcm file.mp3
The mp3 files are piped to ezstream 'stdin' and out to the web with
icecast. The files are short (7 seconds) and are piped over and over
again.
It works fine with iTunes, RealPlayer, Winamp5.x, VLC, Whamb, but not WMP!
Here's a typical failed connection from the icecast access log

iTunes / quick time
Any idea if/when there will be official ogg support for iTunes or Quick Time for Mac ?
The dual G4s have this stupid thing where if we stick the quick time components on the Mac and it screws them up, or the Mac gets screwed later, then it nacks up the warranty or sumthin.
Basic point is we need official quicktime or iTunes support so we can play Vorbis on the Mac!!!
Anyone heard anything on

Recieving Ogg streams on a Mac?
I have yet to speak to a single Mac user who has successfully received a
live or archived Ogg stream. I'm been told neither MacAmp nor Quicktime will
accept streams, they only play files.
Are there any Mac users on this list who can recommend a player (from
personal experience) which actually plays Ogg streams?

Well, there are only a few more, AFAIK:
- The Quinntissential Player [Windows]

- Zinf [Windows & Linux]
http://www.zinf.org/
- MacAmp [Mac]

ices 0.3 released
...re major tradeoffs:
- Most listeners will have to upgrade to a new client or
install a plugin.
- Most WinAMPers connect with v.3, which won't work with ogg
principally because the icecast developers make no concessions
for its mistaken mime-typing.
- Mac users have to give up iTunes and install Whamb.
- Effectively no hardware device support.
I realize all this is changing, and I'm doing whatever I can to
get it there, but you can only force new standards and technologies
on people if you're Steve Jobs. Others should be as accomodating
as possible.

What? Last I checked, the ogg plugin for winamp 3 threadlocked just
after connect. As far as I know, any bugs there are not our fault. If
they are, we'd appreciate a detailed description on icecast-dev.

Blame Apple. Quicktime doesn't support VBR audio playback (or at least
not the type that we need). Also, all streaming in iTunes is handled
internally, and there is no public API for this. Nor is there a public
API for supporting Ogg directly in iTunes (as opposed to via Quicktime).
