extracting residual variance from glmmPQL
Dear all,
I am trying to simulate data sets from a model fitted with glmmPQL, in
order to compute the distribution of a summary statistics. My data are
binomial and I have a correlation term in my model. My model is
structured in the following way
m <- glmmPQL( fixed = cbind(sucess,failure) ~ x1 + x2 + ... ,
random = ~ 1 | bidon,
correlation = corGaus(form=~

option(expressions) and --max-ppsize
Dear list,
Is there an exact formula / safe rule of thumb that allows
one to express the value of --max-ppsize as a function of
the value of getOption("expressions") ?
?options tells "If you increase it [the expressions option],
you may also want to start R with a larger protection stack".
Motivation is to determine stack size of a Java vm used

what is the difference between survival analysis and (...)
Hi everybody,
recently I had to teach a course on Cox model, of which I am
not a specialist, to an audience of medical epidemiologists.
Not a good idea you might say.. anyway, someone in the
audience was very hostile. At some point, he sayed that
Cox model was useless, since all you have to do is count
who dies and who survives, divide by the sample sizes
and compute a relative risk, and if there

Subscript in axis label
Dear R help list members,
I am experiencing difficulty in trying to generate a subscript '2' in an
axis label. Although I can get the '2' into a subscript using expression(),
R then forces me to leave at least one space between the '2' and the
following character. My label is supposed to read 'N2O concentration
(ppm)', and the space between the '2' and

Dear all,
I am starting to use the lme package (and plan to teach a course based on it
next semester...). To understand what lme is doing precisely, I used balanced
datasets described in Pinheiro and Bates and tried to compare the lme outputs
to that of aov. Here is what I obtained:

Sorry about second post about that, but we need language sensitive menu
links on wiki.centos.org. For example, if users pick any language and wants
to see HowTo section, they need open "Learn" section and find there "HowTo"
section, or add language code into every link from menu bar. We should
solve this. Can someone help?

KS for goodness of fit
Dear All,
I have two distributions which I don't their nature. I want to check whether they come from the same distribution. I know that I can use KS test however the standart function ks.test applies only the ks test for testing the difference of two samples (non-parametric). By the way the distribution are of Euclidean distances. One of observed and the other of shuffled data.
Thanks,
Ron
