Virbiage Phones - Vapourware??
Has anyone heard any more info about the Virbiage FT201 VoIP phones?
About 3 months ago I was told they were 6 weeks away, about 3 weeks ago I was told they were 2 weeks away, and now I am told they are 2 months away again! Are they EVER going to arrive? Can anyone shed some light on this?

how useful could be a fast and embedded database for the R community?
I've already done some benchmarks, again leveldb and sqlite, are quite slow
compared with my release.
They cannot be used very intensively in a huge computation, because the low
performance.
Yes, billions ( American ones : thousands of millions) with a generous RAM.
More details at: www.vulcandb.com
My main concern, is where can feet better such a database. In what fields,
or in what kind

That's what I meant, especially now that Skeleton is a (SHOULD)
requirement for video/ogg and audio/ogg. Lots of encoders will need
to change. ffmpeg2theora, flac (the application), VLC...
And CMML... I believe I

I'm not convinced about the Vorbis I spec lending itself well to peeling.
All the suggestions I've seen so far involve some kind of quality decision
at decode time where the trailer of the residue is thrown away. This is
expensive and I'd say it's the wrong way to go about...

how useful could be a fast and embedded database for the R community?
...ou anything?
The R project and its leading lights are very proud of the open
nature of R, and so you will be talking to strong proponents of open
source software here. You've presented a project with no source or
binary release, no documentation, no API or specification, nothing. No
more than vapourware ever gives us. And then....

Labels on axes with log scales with lattice
I using lattice to make some plots and I want to make the y-axis on
some of these plots use a log scale. In the following plot:
x <- 1:10
y <- 2^x
xyplot(log10(y) ~ x)
I get tick marks on the y-axis at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. I
would rather have just 3 tick marks at 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 but labeled
10, 100, and 1000.
I know this can be done using the "at" and

plan/date for new features
Greetings,
With all the press concerning the 'almost 1.0' release of vorbis; I see a
lot of messages floating around as 'now 1.0, and -soon- it will include
joint-stereo, Wavelets, low-bitrate, peeling, etc. etc.'
Before I start 'advocating' vorbis and tell everybody what it all can do;
is there actually a date or some other planning when all those

Ogg Theora: Some questions on codec interna
Hejsan !
I am currently investigating new, more modern approaches to encoding video
with depth data based on my old data format MPEG Z/Alpha in
http://www.geofront.se/products_software_mza.php
and became therefore interested in Ogg Theora, as an alternative to MPEG-4
encoding - what I would need is two video streams in one system stream
(is that the right terminology in Ogg ?), and decode them

Quicktime + FLAC?
I bought myself a PowerBook and hoped to play my FLAC-encoded library via
iTunes. Alas -- it doesn't work.
My understanding is that iTunes uses QuickTime for playback; does anyone
know where to find a FLAC codec for QuickTime?
I noticed that there was some discussion about this ~1 year ago on flac-dev.
Did any dev projects get underway, or should I roll up my sleeves and give
it a go?

A software FAX modem
...unce the availability of an initial test version of
a totally software FAX facility, suitable for use with Asterisk. This is
a first public test release, so don't expect a solid polished product
just yet. People have shown interest in what I am doing, and here is the
evidence that it is not vapourware.
If the notion of a software FAX machine is new to you, what I have
basically implemented is this. Asterisk contains software to transcode
GSM to A-law, A-law to u-law, and so on. These are DSP functions
implemented on the server's main CPU(s), with no hardware support from
special DSP pro...

Network confusion
Whens the point and click GUI coming out?
All kidding aside, I seem to be confused about some of the network
settings. Essentially all I want is a secure tunnel from machine A to B
on two different physical networks, but I can't seem to get there.
Just to get things figured out I've got two machines on the same physical
network, mach A: 192.168.0.1, mach B: 192.168.0.3. bcast is

Is there any Asterisk controllable thermostat?
I am wondering if there is any such thermostat available which can be
controlled from Asterisk. Like you call your home pbx, dial some extension,
e.g. 333 and it asks to set the temperature, you enter a temperature, and it
sets the thermostat to that temperature. This thermostat will be very
useful, e.g. when you're coming back home after a few days and now its
snowing and you want home to be

Juggernaut Released - (a.k.a Armageddon)
I''ve just released Juggernaut - a plugin for ruby on rails.
Check out the site: http://juggernaut.rubyforge.org
I?ve also finished a demo that illustrates some of Juggernuat?s
capabilities. You can sign up for an account here:
http://alexmaccaw.no-ip.info:3500/login/sign_up . It might be a tad slow
as it?s running from my home machine.
