Polycom 501 power over ethernet
When I bought two Polycom 501 SIP phones, I naively thought they were Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) because they were "powered over ethernet." Silly me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power

For MINSUPPLIES, I'm used to either a 1:1 UPS-to-server ratio, or 2:1 where the server can run with either power supply unpowered. I just tried this in upsmon.conf: MONITOR dummy1 1 monuser

APC 1500 USB problem
Hello, We have two APC Back-UPS RS 1500 USB stuff, and i've got a bit of a problem with it and NUT. The usbdevs output: addr 2: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion addr 3: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion (UPS1 and UPS2) I've configured our NUT system to monitor the UPSes, and it went very fine till the time had arrived for a

HELP! - weird 7960 problem - phone goes nuts - display flashes - phone reboots
I have a strange problem rolling through my 7960 phones. One or more of the phones goes crazy when the first digit is dialed. The display flashes repeatedly, the phone does a bunch of stuff, sometimes it even reboots. It's not the powered switch, the same thing happens with a different unpowered switch. It's not the phone, the problem moves from phone to phone. If it's

sipura over heat
I'm experiencing a very unusual problem with a few of my sipuras. They keep over heating after minimal usage. I unplug them and let them sit for 15 minutes and it starts working fine. The other way around is that I put a fan on it or something to keep it cooling. Has anyone else experienced this or are they just defective units? Regards, Mohammed Salim EZZI Telecom, Inc.

Problem with dual-booting soft-RAID
...ay have given it the wrong parameter), so I used grub directly: root (hd1,0) setup (hd1) That's correct, isn't it? (Is there a way to determine if grub is installed on the correct disk?) I added a third boot entry to the grub.conf (see below). I then removed disk 1 (hda) from the array by unpowering it and rebooted. Unfortunately, that sent me right in the BIOS PXE boot instead of trying the other disk, well, that's a BIOS problem. So I repowered disk 1 and rebooted. The grub on it is still working somehow but just fills the screen with "grub". So I moved disk 2 before disk 1...

First impressions of iRiver iHP120
Battery life sucks. This may be due to three factors: 1. It was the first charge that the machine had 2. Playing Vorbis takes more battery power than MP3 3. The battery is a bit rubbish More considered opinions to follow. a dedicated audio encoder
Hi, I managed to get my hand on a Xenyx x2222usb at a friend's, so I took the opportunity to do some testing with it. Pi model B, one of the more recent editions (I also had an older one from just after they were introduced and that one had trouble rebooting when attaching/detaching network so I ditched that one). Two usb onboard. Xenyx x2222usb has the same usb chip 08bb:2902 Texas

Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch recommendations
Hi listers, I am looking for people who have used Power over Ethernet switches, primarily in conjunction with Polycom IP 501's. I've been looking at the Linksys SRW224P, since I've had good luck with the SRW224 in our office. However, Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, etc. all have an offering, all of which vary in price. I would appreciate any input people have to offer. Thanks, James

UPS rating for SOHO asterisk box
Slightly OT, but I think this is of possible interest to many of you, I need to get a UPS for my asterisk box. They are rated in VA but I can't quite figure out how that converts to real life. I have a PIII-800 box with two X100P and one TDM400P plus graphics adapter, an IDE hard drive etc. Will a small 400VA box be enough for this? tia
