Polycom 501 power over ethernet
...me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power injector cable, they work with the switch in either its powered or unpowered ports. Anyhow, I hadn't seen any mention of how people power these phones, as I had planned on centralizing phone power on a UPS to supply my Asterisk server and POE switch. Now the question is: Can the Polycom AC-powered injector be used with a standard ethernet patch cable: switc...

Shutdown when both (all) UPS on battery / low battery

For MINSUPPLIES, I'm used to either a 1:1 UPS-to-server ratio, or 2:1 where the server can run with either power supply unpowered. I just tried this in upsmon.conf: MONITOR dummy1 1 monuser password slave MONITOR dummy2 1 monuser password slave MINSUPPLIES 1 With only one dummy-ups set to "OB LB", upsmon kept polling. When both were set to "OB LB", it tried to shut down the system. That was with NUT...

APC 1500 USB problem
...usbdevs output: addr 2: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion addr 3: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion (UPS1 and UPS2) I've configured our NUT system to monitor the UPSes, and it went very fine till the time had arrived for a test. UPS unpower (-> ONBAT), and test what NUT does to the boxes connected to it. After I've unplugged the power cable of UPS1, nut started not to notice that on its cgi interface. It was showing a duplicate of the on-power UPS. After this I've restarted the NUT ups daemon and thus the drivers along w...

Shutdown when both (all) UPS on battery / low battery
I tried all options: 1,2 and in MINSUPPLIES: 1,2,3,4 still didn't work. UPS_251 and UPS_252 feeds all environment and it's not feed directly one server, but many of them. > On Jan 21, 2014, at 8:05 AM, Rafa? HELP! - weird 7960 problem - phone goes nuts - display flashes - phone reboots
I have a strange problem rolling through my 7960 phones. One or more of the phones goes crazy when the first digit is dialed. The display flashes repeatedly, the phone does a bunch of stuff, sometimes it even reboots. It's not the powered switch, the same thing happens with a different unpowered switch. It's not the phone, the problem moves from phone to phone. If it's happening to a phone and I restart everything, when everything is back up a different phone will have the problem. has anyone seen this? Thanks! sipura over heat
I'm experiencing a very unusual problem with a few of my sipuras. They keep over heating after minimal usage. I unplug them and let them sit for 15 minutes and it starts working fine. The other way around is that I put a fan on it or something to keep it cooling. Has anyone else experienced this or are they just defective units? Regards, Mohammed Salim EZZI Telecom, Inc.

Problem with dual-booting soft-RAID
...ay have given it the wrong parameter), so I used grub directly: root (hd1,0) setup (hd1) That's correct, isn't it? (Is there a way to determine if grub is installed on the correct disk?) I added a third boot entry to the grub.conf (see below). I then removed disk 1 (hda) from the array by unpowering it and rebooted. Unfortunately, that sent me right in the BIOS PXE boot instead of trying the other disk, well, that's a BIOS problem. So I repowered disk 1 and rebooted. The grub on it is still working somehow but just fills the screen with "grub". So I moved disk 2 before dis...

First impressions of iRiver iHP120
Battery life sucks. This may be due to three factors: 1. It was the first charge that the machine had 2. Playing Vorbis takes more battery power than MP3 3. The battery is a bit rubbish More considered opinions to follow. a dedicated audio encoder
...ed - FIQ reported NYET. Data may have been lost. And recordings were choppy, clicking etc. This is all running the Pi at normal setup with USB2 enabled and Xenyx USB directly connected to the Pi with a 1.5m usb A-B cable. Then, I connected a usb hub to the Pi and then the Xenyx USB to the hub. Unpowered el cheapo hub. Tried another al cheapo crappy usb2 hub that never worked when connecting it between a UMTS dongle and a PC (dongle just would get up and running, probably power issues). Both did the magic trick: recording now works like a charm. Once did I see an "overrun!!! (at least 10...

Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch recommendations
Hi listers, I am looking for people who have used Power over Ethernet switches, primarily in conjunction with Polycom IP 501's. I've been looking at the Linksys SRW224P, since I've had good luck with the SRW224 in our office. However, Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, etc. all have an offering, all of which vary in price. I would appreciate any input people have to offer. Thanks, James

UPS rating for SOHO asterisk box
Slightly OT, but I think this is of possible interest to many of you, I need to get a UPS for my asterisk box. They are rated in VA but I can't quite figure out how that converts to real life. I have a PIII-800 box with two X100P and one TDM400P plus graphics adapter, an IDE hard drive etc. Will a small 400VA box be enough for this? tia
