Calculation of group summaries
...antGrowth))) I'd like to do something slightly more complex, using a data frame and groups identified by unique combinations of three id variables. There may be thousands of such combinations in the data. This is easy in SQL: select year, site_id, visit_no, mean(undercut) AS meanUndercut, count(undercut) AS nUndercut, std(undercut) AS stdUndercut from channelMorphology group by year, site_id, visit_no ; Reading a CSV written by SAS and selecting only records expected to have values is also straight forward in R, but getting those summar...

I agree the Power System L922 looks promising, but I'm afraid the "Please contact us for pricing" still means the prices are eye watering. The problem is that there is almost no competition in the POWER server market which results in higher prices. IBM has the chan...

CE certification for Europe
Hello, I'd like to ask if there are any news about CE certification of the E1 boards. I know that the T1 boards are FCC certified but I'd also like to know what is the status for CE certification. Thanks for any input, Vlasis Hatzistavrou.

...enovo now? As far as I can see, IBM Power Systems *are* in effect what you are looking for, i.e. a Power-based server to run Linux (or AIX or IBM i if you prefer) -- well, that's how IBM would see it I think. They already support Linux on Power Systems. But I don't think they are going to undercut themselves, sadly. -- Mark Rousell

Freelance Rate
Hi, Not sure where to address this question ... but I guess this is a good start. I am a freelance Rails developer - and have been developing Rails apps professionally for about a year now. I just want to get an idea of what you other freelancers charge yourselves out at. I have been charging the equivalent of about $28/hour, but get a sense that I could/should charge a whole lot more. I am

Corporate support for CentOS
There have been a number of recent conversations on the developer list and this list about CentOS. My initial thought was why not have CentOS and SL merge. Since they have different goals I can understand the reason not to. So my next question is, has no corporate entity offered to sponsor full time people to work on CentOS? It seems like a lot of companies use CentOS for various things. I

My contribution to the issue of code- reversal
Four years ago, I faced a real dilemma in my business: the Visual Voice PRI dll had a bug that considered unanswered any call after ringing for 20 seconds. This bug was in fact killing my business, because for international calling, the setup of the call was already close to 20 seconds on many cases. Furthermore, the vendor, Artisoft, had cowardly sold the software to Dialogic, and Intel-Dialogic

Is the X100P a WinModem?
So I've been on the Asterisk list for a long time. Mostly looking to set it up as a cheap alternative to a commercial MeetMe bridge, as a for-fun project. I keep noticing the Wildcard FXO X100P sorta seems like a Winmodem. Winmodems are basically a sound card chip tied to a pots port, where the Winders driver takes on the MO/DEM functions in software. I've always despised them as a data

PRI dead in USA?
Hi- Because a majority of my customers are in Europe, I've gotten quite used to working with ISDN (PRI) and BRI on a regular basis. Recently one of my customers asked me if I could terminate a few lines locally here in the USA (California), so I called up SBC to enquire as to how much it would cost to install a BRI here. Although the rates were reasonable (except the installation), I got
