cannot replace c10t0d0 with c10t0d0: device is too small
In 2007 I bought 6 WD1600JS 160GB sata disks and used 4 to create a raidz storage pool and then shelved the other two for spares. One of the disks failed last night so I shut down the server and replaced it with a spare. When I tried to zpool replace the disk I get:
zpool replace tank c10t0d0
cannot replace c10t0d0 with c10t0d0: device is too small

[PATCH] builder: templates: set "unassigned" hostname
By default the installer will set the hostname to what the DHCP returns,
exposing details of the machine where make-template.ml runs.
Instead, force "unassigned-hostname.unassigned-domain" as hostname, so
plays nicely with the hostname setting code in virt-customize.

online increase of zfs after LUN increase ?
Hello,
There is a feature of zfs (autoexpand, or zpool online -e ) that it can consume the increased LUN immediately and increase the zpool size.
That would be a very useful ( vital ) feature in enterprise environment.
Though when I tried to use it, it did not work. LUN expanded and visible in format, but zpool did not increase.
I found a bug SUNBUG:6430818 (Solaris Does Not Automatically

ZFS + Raid-Z pool size incorrect?
I''m seeing odd behaviour when I create a ZFS raidz pool using three disks. The output of "zpool status" shows the pool size as the size of the three disks combined (as if it were a Raid 0 volume). This isn''t expected behaviour is it? When I create a mirrored volume in ZFS everything is as one would expect the pool is the size of a single drive.
My setup:

Killing an EFI label
Since this seems to be a ubiquitous problem for people running ZFS, even
though it''s really a general Solaris admin issue, I''m guessing the
expertise is actually here, so I''m asking here.
I found lots of online pages telling how to do it.
None of them were correct or complete. I think. I seem to have
accomplished it in a somewhat hackish fashion, possibly not

When do modules get auto-imported
My understanding was that at the beginning of each run the
puppetmaster imports all modules so that any includes at the top level
are applied directly. However, I am not so sure anymore.
I''ve been tracing how this works and it seems like modules are
included more lazily. In other words, when able_to_import is called
seems like when the magic happens, rather than up front when the run

Cannot Mirror RPOOL, Can''t Label Disk to SMI
Dear ZFS experts,
I have 2 SATA 500 GB Hard Drive on my Dual Core PC
I have installed OpenSolaris 2008.11 using Live CD I got from Sun Tech Days in Singapore
Now, using all the guidelines I got here at Indiana Discussion, I can''t attach my second drive to rpool to make them mirror
Initially I was playing around with similar configuration in VirtualBox, and it does not succeed. Finally

Expanding a ZFS pool disk in Solaris 10 on VMWare (or other expandable storage technology)
Hello all,
This is not so much a question but rather a "how-to" for posterity.
Comments and possible fixes are welcome, though.
I''m toying (for work) with a Solaris 10 VM, and it has a dedicated
virtual HDD for data and zones. The template VM had a 20Gb disk,
but a particular application needs more. I hoped ZFS autoexpand
would do the trick transparently, but it turned out

Spilling Virtual Registers
Hello to all LLVM developers.
I'm developing a register allocator using LLVM, my allocator has a local
search phase: given a solution (assignment of virtual registers to physical
registers or memory) generated in the first phase of the algorithm, some
movements are applied to this solution in order to find a better solution.
To apply such movements, I need to unassign a virtual register from

[PATCH 0/2] customize: Fix hostname setting in Debian/Ubuntu.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1372269
It was fairly broken. This fixes it -- except on Ubuntu 10.04 --
and adds a slow test.

Only browsing and net view \\smbserver fails with unassigned share names :(
Dear Samba List,
I'm having a browsing problem with W2k on my 2.0.9 Samba
server and now you are my last hope to help me solving my problem.
Not working is access from Win2k Clients:
"net view \\ixdp425" is the first test that fails, not meaning
to terminate with error, but to produce the following unexpected output:
