setting up bare minimal CentOS VM
Hi all,
I need to setup a real bare minimum CentOS Virtual Machine, but with
normal internet / network access. i.e. I need SSH, Mutt, Links, lynx,
ping, tracert, dig, iptables, etc.
Does anyone know where (if?) I can get a list of applications which
gets installed with CentOS 6 if every option is deselected in the
installer so that I can see what I can remove which isn't really
necessary once installed?

alternative nameserver from local network
hi,
I have a debian system with shorewall acting as a router between my adsl
line and my local network. One of the things on that local network is my
playstation, and I''m having trouble playing an online game with it - the
game tries to access the internet, and then fails at the stage where it
tries to find the game servers.
The debian machine is 192.168.0.3, and the playstation is

routing decisions
...in my LAN to
access net through 192.168.0.4. So according to lartc howto I did,
# echo 200 John >> /etc/iproute2/rt_tables
# ip rule add from 192.168.0.2 table John
# ip route add default via 192.168.0.4 dev eth0 table John
# ip route flush cache
But still 192.168.0.2 cannot access internet. tracert shows that
the traffic is coming to my Linux gateway and then going nowhere.
I have not changed anything in 192.168.0.2
What steps am I missing?
Waiting eagerly for any help on this.
With warm regards,
-Payal

that the pdc is not found.
When I try and locate the via network neighborhood on Win2k it does not appear, I then try a 'search'

I'm lost what is missing ? Listed below is my smb.conf:

Hi All,
This is very urgent, please help me.
I have a redhat machine (2.4.9-e.24) which is acting as a samba server (samba - 2.2.7)
Everything was going smoothly until we changes the ip address of our windows machines.
Now if i try to connect to the server it gives me the error:
"windows cannot find '\\titan". Check the spelling and try again."

OT: routing between eth0 and ppp0 WITHOUT NAT
...ptables -t nat -F
Now, that breaks it so other machines cannot access the remote network
at all, even though the static routes are still in place. For example, I
have a windows machine that can access the remote network before blowing
the nat table away. After blowing the nat table away, if I do a tracert
on the windows machine, the tracert stops at the internal nic (eth0) of
the FC3 pc with the vpn connection. It is also setup as a router. So it
never does an routing.
I've also played with lots of different rules found on the net for
dealing with H323 over iptables and have had no success. I&...

windows XP Guest network doesn''t work
I have Xen 3.0.3 installed on RH EL5 via RedHat RPMs.
I have a Win/XP Pro HVM and a Linux rh5 HVM. I can create both w/o a problem and
can interact with the VNC based console for both VMs.
The Linux VM interacts via DHCP, obtains an IP and seems to work fine on the network.
The Win/XP VM doesn''t work with either DHCP or a static IP address assignment.
I can see the virtual interfaces

Wishlist for v4.0 Integration / Setup of samba.
Is there maybe a way to consolidate (At the developer level) all of the tools and methods into one concise list.
samba is not really tightly integrated with the OS, Is there maybe a way to re-organise the way samba works? maybe to make it completely emulate the way it works on the windows command line?
for example make everything integrated into the net command.....

no networking
Hello,
I am using the latest prepackaged version of wine (apparently
0.0.20010326) under Debian/unstable and I am completely unable to do
anything network related. I tried 'Ping Plotter' as root and TeraTerm Pro
as both root and regular user. I also tried Becky, but that's another
thing entirely. All these applications did not seem to have access to the
network at all. I am using the

Error 54 with Net Use
Hello,
I've got a samba 2.2.5 server running with 5 or 6 users logging in with
no problem. One user cannot get in (eventho initially I believe he
could get in). I can ping and tracert from server to desktop and
desktop to server (using both IPs and names).
I am trying to map using the IP address, so the name resolution isn't an
issue. When I use net use to map the drive this is the error I'm
getting:

I must deliver the configuration asap for Back-up and installating new

I hope to have been clearly in the description and which you will be able to
contribute me to solve this problem.
Thank you in advance and...

I have a Kingston EtheRx KNE100TX adapter, running CAT5 to a LinkSys BSFR41

The only way i could get the network to run at all was with DHCP enabled.
IP's assigned are 192.168.1.100 (Linux box) and 192.168.1.101 (Win98) I can
Ping, I can tracert. I can even load http://192.168.1.100 in Win98 in a

level connectivity is there!
The Win98 machine is a 733 MHz PIII, 128MB RAM, 3 different drives (already
