problem printer driver on Windows XP
We have a strange problem with some printers on a Windows XP host:
When we print a testpage from the linux server (RedHat 8), there's no
problem. But when we configure the printer on our Windows XP client and
we want to print a testpage: nothing happens and we get the "windows

Hi all,
I'm currentlly using samba-2.2.2 together with LPRng-3.7.4, and have a
problem with a printjob that woun't go away. I use samba for a small
file/printserver for 10 people using win98se clients, and it's been
working very nicely. As I upgraded from samba-2.0.6, I sent out a
testpage from one of the win98se clients to the two printers (hpljet 6L,
Epson stylus photo 750) we have on the network, and had to cancel,
because the lpd wasn't configured properly. I removed the jobs from the
samba spooler /var/spool/samba , the lprng spooler /var/spool/lpd/[xxx]
and restarted the d...

Error0x00000006 with Point'n'Print Client Drivers

On the client I can add the printer and am asked to install the driver
manually. I select the Kyocera FS-C2026MFP+ KX driver. Now I can print
from the client.
Now I want to add Point'n'Print. So I copy all the files named on the
printed testpage to the [print$] dir on the server. Then I use the
following to add the driver:

Works in IE just fine. I have a super-simple mockup that shows this problem

Printer-Problems
Hi Folks,
fresh CentOS 5.5 x86_64.
One USB-printer connected (HP Business Inkjet 1200)
Printing from localhost:631 (Testpage) works.
But no from any application.
From OO only the message: printer-problem - no more.
Second printer is from far (Cupsd) in the network.
Works well.
But what's about the local printer?
Any hints?

Missing Driver Options
Hi all,
I work with a CUPS/Samba Printserver and I allocate the drivers via the point n print methode.
Yesterday I get a new HP Laserjet 2420. I installed the HP-driver with the APW of Windows XP. Everything seams to be ok. I printed a testpage without any problems. In the next step I tested the new options of this printer (duplex,...). But I saw, that the driver did not offer this options.
I made a local installation of this driver and I got the options like duplex-print,... . Than I deleted the driver on the server and made a manual i...

newbie HWRITER package question
Hi,
I am playing with hwriter examples given in "example" page.
Here's what I've done:

Public printing and private sharing?
...path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = no
guest ok = yes
read only = yes
printable = yes
use client driver = yes
however, i get an error when i try to print something, let's say from
winword, which says that something went wrong and i should try to
print a testpage. if i set security to share, printing works as
expected, but then i don't know a way to restrict access to other
shares.
unfortunately, i do not have two servers or IPs, so i cannot run two
instances of samba in the default port. is there a way to get what i
want?

3.5.1 64 bit windows printing is working a bit

Reopening the properties tab gives error message:

Function adress 0xff38117a caused a protection fault (exception code
0xc000005) some or all properties pages may not be displayed"
In the samba logfile I see one error, don't now if it is realted...

NT can't print while Win 95 can?
...it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After
installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is
able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the
printserver, but it can not print to the same server? I can install
a printer on NT, but if I try to print a testpage, I get immediately
the error (translated from german):
"Cannot print. Show the Printer Assistant? The syntax for the filename,
directory name or the share name is wrong."
What can I do?
Can you please mail me your smb.conf, if you also have security = share?

access denied on printing from win2k?
...;ve connected a Canon LBP-8 IV laserprinter to the network via a HP
Jetdirect box.
I've configured the printer within linux and printing goes fine.
Now I'm trying to access the printer via samba from my win2k clients. Now,
the problem is: When I'm trying to print to the printer (e.g. a testpage) I
get the message "Test page failed to print. <SNIP> Unable to create a print
job."
Also, it takes a while before the printer gets initialized.
I guess this snippet from the log has something to do with it:
