Novell Evolution Connector
I just built a version of the Novell Evolution Connector (to use Evolution with a MS exchange server) that works with RHEL/WBEL/CentOS/TaoLinux. You can get it from here if you are interested... http://www.hughesjr.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,34/task,view_category/catid,16/order,dmdate_published/ascdesc,DESC/ Here is the Novell link: http://www.novell.com/products/connector/ Johnny Hughes http://www.hughesjr.com/

Kernel packages and 3rd party kernel modules
Hi, I'd like to come back to this topic. We've discussed this before on IRC but there's still no acceptable solution implemented. 3rd party kernel-modules are build against the official Red Hat kernels, to make them work with the TaoLinux/CentOS kernels there are specific requirements: + kernel RPM package should provide the same version/release + kernel version/release should be the same for o /lib/modules/kernel-version-release o /boot/vmlinuz-version-release This means there's not much room for customization if you w...

Finished print jobs are piling up on windows clients
...ly but old (finished) print jobs are piling up in the print queue for the printer on the client side. I never had this problem with the clients when the server was running RedHat 6.2 with Samba 2.2.8 and LPD. The server has been replaced with a server running a RedHat Enterprise Linux rebuild (TaoLinux). The Samba version is 3.0.9 I already checked my cups files and had delete print jobs enabled from the start, also when I log into cups I don't see any printjobs. I appears as if the jobs themselves aren't there anymore, if I restart a job nothing happens. I guess it's just some lo...

dag repository for java applet
...your repository, and everything else from a yum > mirror? Well, maybe downloading them manually would be te easiest in this case. You understand that I cannot make a repository for each package :) If you're concerned about the few core packages that are replaced, there is a Yum patch in TaoLinux that allows to protect the base system by not replace Red Hat core packages by third party ones. I'm only doing that for tools like lftp, rsync and a few others. (Tools that have been drastically improved since the RHEL3 release and most people want to use anyway). But of course that is mor...

bug in shorewall shorewall-2.1.7-1 rpm??
Hi! I installed shorewall shorewall-2.1.7-1 on a newly installed box. When using 1.4 versions I could enable shorewall in ntsysv, now shorewall doesn''t show up in ntsysv? I am running shorewall on a RedHat Enterprise Linux rebuild (www.taolinux.org). Is this a bug or a feature?

bind and 3.4
Hello, I encountered a problem when upgrading from 3.3 to 3.4 on i386. The machine is a production name server running bind. Looks like the new rpm moved my named.conf to .rpmsave and chkconfig'ed bind to off. That's really bad. A more gentle behavior would have been to save the new named.conf to .rpmnew and not mess with initscripts. Anyone else notice that? Francois Caen

How quickly are RHEL errata released as CentOS errata ?
Hi, I am deciding on what 'RHEL clone' to use and prefer to use one that has a quick release after RedHat releases an update. I checked the repositories, but have not encountered any of the latest errata. Am I looking at the wrong place ? Thanks, Taco

Possible new CentOS user (currently WBEL)
Hi, For a few months i've been using WhiteBox Enterprise Linux. In fact, i've migrated all my companie's servers (about 20) to this RHEL distro like. Well, it's not that i'm not satisfied, but WBEL is a one man show and that causes me some preocupation. And besides, it seems to me that it can't stand up to the rythm RHEL evolves. That's why i'm writing to you,

Faxing..not 100%
Here is the setup: POTS -> PRI -> Asterisk -> ATA (Fax) The ATA is set to only 711. Asterisk's sip.conf sets this device to only 711. Yet, faxing works less than 50% of the time. I cannot possibly be the only person with this problem. I can't even get app_rxfax to work. It answers but rxfax drops the call 5 seconds into it. If anyone out there has near 100% success with

kind of urgent
Hi all. Can anyone comment why shouldn't we use FC 3 for an * production system? I'm not looking to start a distro war, but we just found out that redhat 9 (and FC 1) don't support SATA drives, and apparently FC 3 does. We are only familiar with red hat and are in a point in time that switching distros is not available. The guy installing the system is already on location. Yes, I

"Out the box" solutions?
Hi, again. I've spent a week trying to get asterisk to work on FreeBSD unix, with some success. Everything works until I plug the box into the TELCO line and then the line goes off-hook and stays that way. So I bit the bullet and decided to install the application on a fresh linux install. Not to start an OS war, here, but linux is ... difficult ... for an old unix hand to get his mind

auto provision of IP501 polycom
Has anyone been able to get the IP501 to discover the FTP server IP address (via dhcp or dns) and download 100% of the config from a provisioning server? We are still having to touch each unit to enter the ftp server address and password, as well as set many of the options that will not take from the config file. Have a sample config file you are willing to share? What is required in

Why Are You Using FreeBSD?
Hi Everyone, This is off-topic, so please feel free to disregard it, but I'm sending it to this list in the hope that it will reach a largish number of users. I am currently looking at updating some of our advocacy material (which advertises exciting new features like SMP support), and before I do I'd like to get a better feel for why the rest of you are using FreeBSD. If you had to
