libpam-smbpass
Hai, Its not anymore in debian package, its in samba now as far i can tell, i think, 4.2 was the latest that had this. But `man smb.conf` and search for `unix password sync` That should give more info. Ps. Upgradeing debian 8 to 9 and samba, read : http://downloads.van-belle.nl/samba4/Upgrade-info.txt Almost every part where it might go wrong, when upgrading from 4.2 is in this file.

Suddenly wine has a problem
Wine has been working perfectly over the last few months, and suddenly today I seem to be having this problem when I have not modified anything since the last time I sued wine. I should also point out, I have made no configuration changes to wine to cause this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix the problem. This is broken (and insecure) behaviour.
We are seeing erratic behaviour from Samba for connecting Unix drives to an NT terminal Server. Samba version 2.0.6 Solaris 2.6 NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition with service pack 4 running WinCenter NIS Logon Utility. The NT server is not part of a domain and uses the WinCenter Logon Utility to authenticate username and passwords from my Unix NIS server. Samba is set up for server level

setting passwords from Windows
I'd like to change Samba passwords from win95 and NT4 clients. I use security=user. I don't give shell access to every user, so they can't use smbpasswd. I've tested from a win95 client with the precompiled samba-2.0.4b.i386.rpm: net pass \\greg greg test1 test2 I'd used smbpasswd to change greg's password to test1 on host greg prior to this. Here's the smbpasswd

Error while compliling
Hi, Please help me resolve this problem. While compiling samba-1.9.18p8, I got this message: cc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6 make: *** [smbpass.o] Error 1 I have re-edited the Makefile, and recompiled several times. Each time I got the same error message, at exactly this same spot. Is this a problem with my gcc compiler? which the message seems to imply. But I have

The answer is on the Slackware CD Rom - read /contrib/gcc2721.README. Apparently it's a bug wih this version of gcc, and the previous version is on the CD as a work-around. Compile problems in Slackware
Hi there. Has anyone experienced problems when compiling Samba? I always get stuck with an "internal compiler error" at the file smbpass.o. The system is Slackware 3.4.0 (still the current release), with kernel 2.0.33 and GCC 2.7.2.3, I checked it with Samba 1.9.18p8 and 1.9.18p7. How to get the error: Install Slackware 3.4.0 Extract samba-1.9.18p8.tar.gz edit

[Fwd: Winbind under 3.0
I posted this plea for help last week, but received no responses, so I figured I'd re-send. Since posting this message I upgraded to 3.0 stable using the package posted on the samba.org site, and the behavior remains the same. I should also mention, if I try smbclient -U guest and enter an empty password, I can successfully get a browse list fromt the server. Is there an increased

samba 2.0.6 breaks domain validation (for me)
Hi, Recently i moved from samba 2.0.5a to Samba 2.0.6 on 4 machines. Samba 2.0.5a ran quite smooth except for oplocking problems, so i decided to upgrade. I compiled both releases myself and used the same ./configure options both times (but i compiled on different machines: v 2.0.5a was compiled on a HP 9000/715/50, 2.0.6 was compiled on a HP 9000/800/K360) I used binutils 2.9.1 and gcc 2.8.1 on

Unix password sync: Any hints?
Hi! I know this is about the most asked question on these lists. I've been searching the archives looking for an answer, but all I can find is the same question over and over... I'm trying to get the Unix Password Sync option to work on my server. I'm running RH 6.0, with MD5 and shadowed passwords enabled, and Samba 2.0.5a (the RPM version). When I try to change passwords using

Win98 goes to sleep on Samba
I have been running RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3 for the past week or so. My network is made up of NT servers and 95/98 clients. So far Samba has been running beautifully - I can use my Samba shares just like they are NT shares. My only problem is from time to time my Win98 machine "goes to sleep" and asks me for either a password or an IPC$ password. Generally this happens after a

Help with smbpasswd
I am running samba version 2.0.7 on a HP 11.00 server. I have a local pc account that is trying to access a samba share and is being prompted for a username and password (which usually does not happen). When I look in the log file, I see the following. How can I troubleshoot this. Any help is appreciated. [2002/11/21 15:33:04, 1] smbd/reply.c:(988) Username pcguest is invalid on this system
