Pati,
The log snip below suggests that you are using "security = server"
with
"password server = PANT05". If that is correct then this means that
the
user's password was rejected (either no account on password server, or
incorrect password) by PANT05. In failing a remote lookup the samba server
then tries to validate against a local smbpasswd database which would not
exist if you are using the settings above, thus it fails. MS Windows
stores two separate hashes of the MS Windows network user password. The
case preserved password that is then hashed (called the NT password) as
well as one in which all characters in the password are converted to upper
case and it is then hashed (called the LanMan password).
Clearly the samba server that produced this log info does NOT have an
smbpasswd file, and you probably don't want one either if you are using
a remote password server.
You need to check the user's login_id and password on the PANT05 server.
If you want to discuss call me on (650) 580 8668. I am the guy who rang
you some time ago. Hope you are well.
Cheers,
John T.
