samba - Sep 1998 - new user question

Hi all,
I have installed samba on both BSDI 3.1 and Linux.  I have been having
trouble compiling on linux so I got a binary form and installed it.  So far
all seems to work except the password keeps getting rejected when trying to
map a drive.  It is happening in both the linux version and BSDI.  I am
loging into windows with the same user/pass as my unix account and am
trying to map a drive it sees the network but when I put the password in it
spits it back to me.  

also below is a copy of the error I am getting when trying to compile in
linux 2.0.34

thanks for the response from everyone.  I have recompiled the kernal and
the compiler worked fine.  I have switched ram also. To me it dosn't seem
to be hardware related because i have compiled many things with no problems
until now.  also compiling the kernal takes a lot and if it has not problem
with that why should it with that one file.  any way I guess i could try to
upgrade the gcc but I am confused at what file i need do you know the name
of it so I can download it.  I went to cdrom.com under sunstiet/GCC and
there was many files but none that i could recognize.
