WinXP - Can Join 2.2.2 domain - Not log on
...he reboot I cannot logon as a domain user as I did with Win2k. I get the following message: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. etc..." I have tried the "SignorSeal" registry hack I found in the samba 2.2.2 distribution, however the registry editor refuses to enter it into the registry. So I manually changed the registry entry from "1" to "0". But still I can't logon. Am I missing something obvious? If anyone has been able to ge...

Samba PDC and XP Pro Problem. (Not signorseal - fixed that one some time ago)
...2k laptops work fine (all service packs applied) and allow any domain user to log on to any of the 2k laptops. However the XP laptops if I try logging on as a user other than the normal user for that laptop then no dice - I get a can not find domain controller error. All the XP laptops have had the signorseal fix applied, and I'm not using roaming profiles so that's not the issue (or might be on hindsight... does XP allow a domain user to log on without a server side profile?) The PDC configuration is shown below:- # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 10.0.0.26 (10.0.0.26) # Date: 2002...

Samba 3.0 alpha20-2 and Win2k SP3
Is there anyone on the list that has been able to get Win2k SP3 working with the 3.0 alpha version? I'm able to join but I can NOT log in. I can see the machine account listed in pass.tdb (using pdbedit -l) and it is also in passwd & shadow. I HAVE ALSO APPLIED THE SIGN OR SEAL PATCH. The message I get is: "The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's

XP 2.2.8a issues
...boxes in one offices joined to a w2k domain. The w2k server has no problem mapping drives on the samba server, however, the XP workstations refuse. Put in user name and password in the box after mapping, and it just pops back up like you've entered a wrong pass/user name. I have changed signorseal to 0 in registry to no avail. Of course, when the server was NT4, I had no problem. And if the XP boxes are in workgroup mode rather than domain mode there's also no problem maping the samba drives. Any advise would be appreciated, as I'm about to roof test the worthless w2k server.

Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win98 and Win95
Hello! Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4 fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95 clients. My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling with it but i cant get

Old SAMBA and WinXP....
...have WinNT 4.0, and I could access Files on Windows Explorer through SAMBA with no problems. Now I updated one of my workstations to WinXP Pro., and - no access to the Samba Server, I just get the message; "The Account is not Authorized to log in from this station" I applied the "signorseal" registry update, and when I export at the entry it looks a bit like; [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters] "DisablePasswordChange"=dword:00000000 "Update"="no" "Scripts"=hex(2):25,53,79,73,74,65,6d,52,6f,6f,74,25,5c...

Unable to join to domain: The username could not be found.
...h supplying correct username and password which is saved in ldap again. But when I try to join the domain, windows system wants username and password. It refuses it if I give wrong creds and if I give the true ones, refuses again with "the user name could not be found" I've tried signorseal patch, configured local policy but no hopes. Also samba config test and slaptest returns OK. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Hakan BAYINDIR

Samba PDC problem
Easy one. I have win98 clients that login and connect to the shares fine. My problem is the user home directory, each user can see their folders and can even open them but they cannot save to their home directory. Each users home dir is setup as 0700 (-rwx------), as are the files and subdir's, which I believe is Read, Write, Execute for the owner of the file. What am I missing? Chris.

Samba as a PDC -- HELP NEEDED
Hi Samba Support, I'm in an all Windows environment with about 60 Win XP workstations and 10 Win 2K Pros, served by a Win 2K Server and have mails on Exchange 2000. But Mine!! and I mean Mine! stability is a problem! I read about the ability of Samba as a PDC. Please I need to implement this technology quickly to the situation and buttress my initial arguement that the right choice was an X

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
...s far as I can tell, I've configured the old clients and the new clients in exactly the same way. It may be that I've neglected to do something on the new clients that I did on the old. I didn't religiously document the process of configuring them, but I only remember doing the 'signorseal' registry tweak and the gpedit.msc tweak (see below for details). More detail: I've had a samba/ldap PDC running successfully for quite some time now (6+ months). Users can login to the domain, profiles are loaded and saved correctly to the PDC server, home drives are mapped correctly,...

networking problem/Domain not available
...cross-over isn't an issue. The problem is when I do this, none of the workstations (XP based) can find the domain controller any more (domain not available). I switch the cables back (remove the switch), everything works fine. Use the switch again, same problem. This means it's not the signorseal problem. For kicks to see if it's a bad cable or switch, I used a live Linux CD on my test workstation (this one is having the problem) when the connection is running through the new switch and it got a lease from the PDC (it's also a DHCP server) and can ping the PDC no problem. This,...

Windows XP
Good evening all, I'm running samba 2.2.2a on RedHat 7.2 as a PDC and until today all was well. One of my users upgraded their workstation to Windows Xp pro and although they received a message "Welcome to the domain" when they try to log on they receive the message that the domain comptroller cannot be located to validate their account. The workstation show up in the browse list.

XP and PDC patch alternative
Hey gang, I just joined the list but I've read back a few months and so far noone has mentioned this so I thought I'd drop a line on it. I haven't tried this yet, I have to get back to work to do so but. I think there is an easier way to disable signorseal then to apply the path. Microsnot addresses the issue in the following KB article. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318266 It seems like it would be quicker considering you don't have to apply the patch to each control set. Although this applies to a NT4.0 domain the res...

incredible problem to join NT samba domain with XP client

Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
....7. A couple of users on Windows XP clients are reporting problems saving files from within MS Word, and Wordpad to the samba share, which of course is a mapped drive. They get an error saying "This is not a valid file name".... These XP boxes do have the reg hacks plainpassword.reg and signorseal.reg installed. The work around is to save a file to a local directory and then copy the file over to the samba drive via windows explorer, but that s*cks! Any ideas? this is driving us bananas. Multiple server theory
...Linux 1 - presently joined to domain - slave DNS/LDAP - primary file server - primary SMB HOME/PROFILES and SHARES - Linux 2 - presently BDC-soon PDC - web & mail server - master DNS/LDAP - DHCP server Should I be running winbind on Linux 1? Does Samba 3.0.0 with LDAP obviate the need to fix signorseal registry on WinXP Prof clients? How about if I get kerberos working? Thanks, Craig
