Good evening all, I'm running samba 2.2.2a on RedHat 7.2 as a PDC and until today all was well. One of my users upgraded their workstation to Windows Xp pro and although they received a message "Welcome to the domain" when they try to log on they receive the message that the domain comptroller cannot be located to validate their account. The workstation show up in the browse list. However if I click on it, I receive a message that the trust relationship has not been established. I deleted the machine account from the smbpasswd list and then readded it with no avail. I am new to this list so forgive me if this has been discussed before. Has anybody seen this type of behavior? I recently rebuilt my system after a server failure and lost several samba notes, I need the reg information for windows XP so that I can log onto my Linux box. I am using redhat 7.2 as my PDC. Does anyone have this reg information; I would very much appreciate the necessary reg lines. Hi all, I've got a server running samba 2.2.1a as a domain controler. Everything seems to work fine with Windows 2000: I can add a machine to the domain using the automatic procedure (add user script in smb.conf) on Windows 2000 and then login without any trouble. The problem is that I've tried to do so with a couple of Windows XP and it seems to register the machine into the domain: the usenames are created, but when I try to logon it fails with a message saying that the machine is not into the domain and this error message in the machine log: [2002/05/02 10:26:57, 0] rpc_server/srv_netlog_nt.c:get_md4pw(154) get_md4pw: Workstation xpbox$: no account in domain Any clue on what's going wrong on Windows XP, Thanks in advance, Bernat
I've got a Windows XP network that I want to get working with Samba as a PDc. I successfully, I thought, set up a machine account for my XP box on my Samba server from the XP box. It said 'welcome to the edith domain'. Great. I was very excited yesterday. NOw, though, I cannot log onto it. It says the domain is unreachable. The log file says: [2002/05/24 09:11:28, 0] rpc_server/srv_netlog_nt.c:get_md4pw(188) get_md4pw: Workstation tyler$: no account in domain Any thoughts? I did apply the signorseal fix to the registry to no avail.
Thank you. I did this. I did also have the add user script(add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u)Still, though, when I am on my XP machine, it tells me that either the domain is unreachable or there is no account for my workstation. Now, when I look at the log file, there are two of them for this machine, there is tyler.log and tyler.log.1. It would appear that tyler.log.1 is the old one. tyler.log is empty. There are no new entries in either one for this morning when I tried to log into it. The machine does show up as a samba user. There is, however, a $ behind the name. That designates it being a machine? I am still kind of at a loss. your help is greatly appreciated. jim -----Original Message----- From: Keith Lynn [mailto:lynn@cis.usouthal.edu] Sent: Friday, May 24, 2002 11:55 AM To: James Bear, English Teacher Subject: Re: [Samba] Windows XP Did you remember to run smbpasswd on the machine account? I don't know if I am right, due to the faxt I cannot access any XP box at this time. But had the same problem in the past. When I disabled Windows Internet Firewall it was possible to logon to domain. May be this helps.. CU Piet> Thank you. I did this. Hello all I am having trouble with Windows XP (serves you right I hear you say) and Samba in a Samba Domain. I join the windows XP system to the domain but after reboot it says that it cant find the domain. The windows 98 system is OK. When I look at the smbpasswd file the XP system is shown with a $ after its name. Can anyone point me in the right direction. My server is RH8. The version of samba is the version bundled with RH8.0. The version of samba is the version bundled with RH8.0.You need to disable "RequiresSignorSeal" in the registry. If you check the Samba source tarball, ~samba/docs/Registry/WinXP_SignOrSeal.reg is the file you need to double-click on in XP to turn off this feature. The other way is to use the Security editor to turn this off. Following a reboot all should work. - John T. -- John H Terpstra Email: jht@samba.org
