Standard errors of sexual dimorphism?
Hello! I am working on a manuscript on sexual dimorphism in an aquatic invertebrate, where we have estimated sexual dimorphism (SD) for 7 different traits in four populations (a total of 28 SD-estimates). We have used the following formula for estimating SD: 100 * (mean male trait value - mean female trait value)/overall trait mean). Then, we...

Error in lmer: asMethod(object) : matrix is not symmetric [1, 2]
...ng trouble with lmer. I am looking at recombinant versus non recombinant individuals. In the response variable recombinant individuals are coded as 1's and non-recombinant as 0's. I built a model with 2 fixed factors and 1 random effect. Sex (males/females) is the first fixed effect and sexual genotype (XY, YY, WX and WY) the second one. Sexual Genotype is nested in sex. XY and YY individuals are males and WX and WY females. I crossed 8 XY males with 8 WY females and 8 YY males with 8 WX females. Each cross corresponds to a family (i.e. family 1 to 8 for XY x WY and family 9 to 16 fo...

superimposing network graphs
Dear all, I have a undirected network (g), representing all the sexual relationships that ever existed in a model community. I also have a directed edgelist (e) which is a subset of the edgelist of g. e represents the transmission pathway of HIV. Now I would like to superimpose the picture of the sexual relationships with arrows in a different colour, to indicate wher...

ancova help
I am trying to run an ancova and am having trouble setting it up properly. I have nearly 10,000 measurements of fish length, girth and stage of sexual development. I am suspicious that the stage of development is affecting the length (as they get full of eggs they get more round and are more difficult to measure and measure shorter). My data looks somethign like this: Length girth stage 40 50 2 42 48 3 37 40 5 38 38 6 34 44 2 3...

.XXX Domain Name / Trade Mark Protection
A new .xxx domain suffix for sexual content is becoming available. If you have a cherished Trade Mark or brand name and do not want relish having your_domain_name.xxx being available to Cyber Squatters or the 'porn trade' you can block the issuing of that .xxx domain name for a single payment of USD $200 - $300. The blocking...

...rom Amsterdam to Portland and one of the things that I did was to read the new CoC properly. This a direct quote from the CoC: "Harassment includes the use of abusive, offensive or degrading language, intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, sexual imagery and unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors." Doesn't this fall into this category? Your argument is not that great because you could say that from any LKML discussion. If you don't like hugging, please propose something else :-) /Jarkko

wbinfo returns Error looking up domain users
...ters, images, sounds, odors, severed limbs, noodles, wierd dreams, strange looking fruit, oxygen, and certain parts of Jupiter are strictly forbidden. If I find you violating, or molesting my property in any way, I will employ a pair of burly convicts to find you, kidnap you, and perform god-awful sexual experiments on you until you lose the ability to sound out vowels. I don't know why you are still reading this, but by doing so you have proven that you have far too much time on your hands, and you should go plant a tree, or read a book or something. - http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/

ANCOVA, Ops.factor, singular fit???
I'm trying to perform ANCOVAs in R 1.14, on a Mac OS X, but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Essentially, I'm testing whether a number of quantitative dental measurements (the response variables in each ANCOVA) show sexual dimorphism (the sexes are the groups) independently of the animal's size (the concomitant variable). I have attached a 13-column matrix as a data frame (so far, so good). But then I tried to do this: >model<-lm(ln2~sex*ln1) or this: >model<-lm(ln2~sex+ln1) and got this: Warni...

We can and could say Person A is not welcome; at minimum, all of Person A's communications should be moderated. 2) Person A has multiple convictions for sexual assault or other violent crime. Person A does not get to attend LLVM events. 3) Person A (an existing LLVM contributor) takes a technical discussion from LLVM with Person B into an alternate channel so as to personally attack person B without being subject to CoC. Workaround does not work, sti...

Difficulty understanding sem errors / failed confirmatory factor analysis
Hello, I'm trying to fit a pretty simple confirmatory factor analysis using the sem package. There's a CFA example in the examples, which is helpful, but the output for my (failing) model is hard to understand. I'd be interested in any other ways to do a CFA in R, if this proves troublesome. The CFA is replicating a 5 uncorrelated-factor structure (for those interested, it is a
