But the Celt decoder stops decoding with the first bit I manipulated even
if this bit is not in the header.
So is there a way to do the test from the command line?
thx,

OT: good headphones?
...-topic, mostly, but I figure you guys will have some knowledge in
this sound-quality-related area.
I'm sitting here looking at the most recent "Musician's Friend" at headphones
and thinking about getting a pair. They've got products from AKG, Fostex,
Audio Technica, Nady, Sennheiser, and Sony, at price points ranging from $16
to $130 (list prices $20 to $200). What should I expect to pay for a decent
pair of headphones? Any brands to avoid? I'd be using these for mixing
multitrack recordings and editing CD audio, not for general music listening.
I like to buy quali...

Headsets
Hey Everyone,
We are in the process of reviewing headsets for use with our GXP-2000s.
I'm looking for some feedback as to which headsets people are using, the
pros and cons of those headsets, and if they would recommend them to
someone else.
Any help would be appreciated...

how do I make my headset work
How do I make my headset work.
Before I try it with anything else, I'd like to make it work
with arecord and aplay.
VLC and movie player can make sounds with my external speakers.
though not in my headset yet.
I've got an insignia NS-PAH5101 headset.
As directed, the red connector is in the pink spot and
the green connector in green spot in the back of my computer.

Wireless Mic System
jduran wrote:
> Your wisdom please!
Sennheiser is a reputable brand. The model you cited is in their lowest cost series. I have sold a number of these systems over the years. Their first generation (not G2) were problematic in not being very durable. I don't have as much experience with the G2, but the few we have sold have worked fine...

Wireless Mic System
I have used several Shure systems, a few Sennheisers and a few
AudioTechnica systems.
Do not expect any of these systems, even the highest end, to be
anywhere as reliable as a wired mic. As the years went on, I
generally moved higher and higher end to try to weed out problems I
had with units that were due to design or unit flaws. I've been o...

Newbie question ... fallback mounts
Attached is my config file. The purpose is to interrupt my regular
stream sith a station (stream) ID once per hour (time synchronized
externally).
I use ezstream to play the pre-recorded stream ID.
I never hear the stream ID while listening to the stream. (There is a
10 second break in the stream once per hour) What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

SIP/IAX softphones for use in callcentre environments
...l call centers in the netherlands with the
eyebeam softphone (from the counterpath guys)
It is not free, but very stable, and pretty easy to use.
It works great with asterisk (specially the presence option, so agents
can see whether somebody is actually ready to take a call).
In combination with sennheiser headset CC series, I have had no
complaints.
We also use a tapi to make automated dialing possible, which also works
fine.
Enjoy,
joash

$9.95 is a good reason why.

Difficult sample for vorbis w/ audible artifacts
I came across an interesting test sample the other day while trying to
compress some of my music and trying out different encoders. You can grab
the sample in question from here:
http://www.animus-facticius.org
drone_clip.zip is a 9 second clip of the track where the artifact is most
apparent, drone_short.pac is a 1 minute clip of track. The sample is from

Ogg too good?
I'm just encoding some files with the latest ogg and it's
too good. I tried encoding things at q1 just to see what
happened and I couldn't hear the differencee between the
ogg and the original files.
Maybe it was the type of music I was encoding or limitations
in my listening equipment or something but it seems pointless
to have a scale from one to ten and have most of it unused.

What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?
What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P-III 500
with Altec Lansing speakers in the dining room and a P-II 350 with Labtec
speakers in the Guestroom/office. Sorry, I can't remember what model the
Lansings are off the top of my head. The Labtec speakers are fairly
cheap. I have a PCI ensonique sound card in the P-III system. I not sure

Pitch shift with RC2
I've just installed RC2 and I'm very excited about the quality. It's so
much better than MP3. This is the first version I've used since I just
found out about Ogg Vorbis.
I did notice that very high frequencies seem to be missing but since not
many people can hear much above 18 KHz it's not much of an issue. I suppose
this resolves the hiss problem so prevalent in MP3.
